Copy and Paste may be on the horizon for the iPhone [Updated]

by Jake Gaecke on Aug 22, 2008 at 08:51 PM

OpenClip copy and paste for the iPhoneDaringFireball has an update for us on the OpenClip framework that was very promising in adding copy and paste functionality for conforming applications. It seems that our copy and paste hopes are about to be let down again.

Apparently, what was allowing OpenClip to work was a loophole.

The OpenClip framework, by Zac White, is a very clever implementation of a fundamentally unwise idea.

Details after the break.

WordPress iPhone app source code now available

by Patrick Lutz on Jul 24, 2008 at 04:48 PM

WordPress for iPhone

I think it’s great that the iPhone WordPress app is open source, but what about the iPhone SDK NDA (nondisclosure agreement, which means you can’t share any information about the SDK with anyone)? It doesn’t seem that the people at WordPress care too much about Apple’s NDA, since they are now sharing the source code of their WordPress iPhone app via their SVN server.

It’s hard to tell whether Apple will be starting legal issues with the people at WordPress, although it is quite clear that they are carelessly violating their NDA. If they do, it means that Apple is still serious about the iPhone SDK NDA, even though the iPhone 2.0 software and the App Store are both now live. However, if Apple decides to allow WordPress to distribute their iPhone app’s source code, it won’t be long before many other iPhone developers follow.

Mobile blogging via the iPhone gets easier with WordPress app

by Arnold Zafra on Jul 23, 2008 at 06:46 AM

WordPress for iPhone ApplicationTaking the lead off Six Apart’s Typepad application for the iPhone, Automattic has released the WordPress application for the iPhone and the iPod Touch. The application is now available in the iTunes Apps Store as a free download. Although you still can’t add links or remotely hosted images, nor can you use the good old paragraph formatting features that users have grown accustomed to, the WordPress application features some useful functionality that you can use on your iPhone and iPod Touch.

The WordPress mobile application features full support for tags and categories, support for camera phone pics and library photos, support for multiple blogs, password protection and auto-recovery of posts if you get interrupted by phone calls.

The WordPress mobile application works with both WordPress.com hosted blogs and self-hosted blogs on versions 2.5.1 and later. You may download the application here (link will direct you to the iTunes Apps Store).

Zarra Studios releases iWeb Buddy, the post-processor for iWeb

by Nicholas Montgomery on Mar 18, 2008 at 06:10 AM

Zarra Studios releases iWeb Buddy, the post-processor for iWebiWeb has always been great a what it does, but it doesn’t do much for running a real site. For my grandmother who may want to publish some family photos online, it’s great. iWeb Buddy is a post processor app for iWeb. This Mac application is designed to add more features and functionality to iWeb. A big feature of this brand new app is the ability to have multiple domain files with iWeb. This will enable you to have iWeb keep your sites in separate files. In addition, it also has some neat features such as Mint and Google Analytics integration, an option to add Social Bookmarking buttons, commenting and custom HTML code.

Zaire Studios says that you can “With iWeb Buddy, a user can monetize their websites.“ The explained this by the ability to have shopping carts with the custom html code feature. I personally don’t feel that the app is worth your $29, and you could do much more with Wordpress for free. Wordpress plugins can expand functionally of your site without even needing to code. Good attempt to expand iWeb, but it just doesn’t have enough features for your cash.
