Legendary iCar becoming a reality?
Ok, everybody, time to ingest a nice, big grain of salt. Done? Mkay, moving on.
According to a recent issue of a German car magazine, Apple has resumed chats with Volkswagen about the iCar. Along with the picture of a futuristic car, the cover of the magazine in question shows an iPod Touch with the caption “So einfach wie ein iPod,“ (As simple as an iPod). Could this really be the new iCar? Probably not. Sorry guys.
Ever since Steve Jobs and Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn had a couple meetings to discuss the possibility of integrating Apple software into a sub-compact VW, the rumor mills have been abuzz with the possibilities. Despite the fact that the talks fell through late last year, Apple fanboys keep the iCar light aflame. I apologize again for the disappointment, but rumors surrounding Apple have a strange tendency to be not what is most likely to happen, but rather what users want. According to an iSuppli analyst, something as futuristic as an iCar doesn’t have a chance of showing up until at least 2010.
Heck, if Mercedes and Swatch can collaborate to make a super-popular car, why can’t Apple and VW?

VW’s not alone; Jaguar jumps in on the action

Earlier this week, rumors pointed towards a partnership between Apple and car manufacturer Volkswagen. The Financial Times said VW CEO Martin Winterkorn was in talks with Apple CEO Steve Jobs, but I honestly doubt they’re working to build an “iCar”; it’s a horrible partnership anyway.
CAR magazine is now reporting that Jaguar seems to have “pounced” in on the action as well. Design cues within the interior of the brand new Jaguar XF are supposed to be the result of work done in partnership with Apple, at least according to Ian Callum, the design director at Jaguar.

VW and Apple preparing an iCar

German magazine Capital is reporting that Apple and Volkswagen are working together on an “iCar”, or more specifically car integration systems. In an earlier interview with CNET a strategy manager for Volkswagen said they have been working on “the development of its navigation and human interface” and that its customers will see “some interesting things in this space in the near to long-term future”.
