Just “iPod” name dropped, now “iPod classic”

by Michael Yurechko on Sep 6, 2007 at 02:31 AM

iPod classicToday was a very exciting day for all Apple fans all over the world, but also a sad day. The original iPod which we just called “iPod” is no more, it is now suffixed as the “iPod classic.”

The latest update to the classic was announced today. The device is now available in only silver and black metal casings. Seems like Apple is tossing the “glossy” look on a lot of products lately.

New interface improvements for Leopard

by Zach Flauaus on Jul 29, 2007 at 02:55 PM

leopard-conquerWhen Leopard was originally shown off at WWDC 2007, there were plenty of features shown off. Finder was upgraded, the Dock had an overhaul, Spaces was shown, among others. Although these will no doubt be some of the biggest features in Leopard, one of the most noticeable changes was the interface. They showed off the new dock, how the menu bar is now translucent, and the fact that they aren’t doing a new Aqua wallpaper.

Earlier this week, Apple gave developers new builds of OS X 10.5 and 10.5 Server, which would be Build 9A499. Think Secret has posted a few shots of some minor changes. The dock has changed in that in between the Applications and the Folders/Trash Can section, the divider instead of being a vertical line is now something that resembles a crosswalk. Also, the menu bar is polished so the icons go better with the new translucent menu bar.

There are two other noted interface changes. One being that the System Preferences icon, which previously was a light switch, is now resembling the Settings icon on the iPhone. The other change is in Finder, which you can now set to always “Show Path Bar” so you can find where the file is located at.

A feature addition in iChat was also added. Google Talk is now built-in, possibly because of the relationship between the two on the iPhone.

There are a few other changes mentioned in the article and Think Secret is also claiming that they will publish a full screenshot gallery “shortly.”

Video of 6G iPod UI?

by Michael Yurechko on Jul 27, 2007 at 04:22 PM

Just the other day we posted a picture of what is supposedly the new UI for the upcoming 6G iPod. MacRumors broke the story first, but soon removed the image, essentially proving it was, in fact, real. Soon after the image there was a video spread around YouTube of the UI in action but it was also taken down.

The only site I could find with the video still in place was UNEASYsilence. Check out the video, and let us know what you think of the supposed new UI.

6G iPod UI?

by Paul Hillsdon on Jul 22, 2007 at 02:05 PM

iPod 6g UIA number of videos of the purported 6G iPod User Interface have been provided anonymously to MacRumors. It has been previously rumored that the latest iteration of the iPod would be released August 7th, along with new iMacs. The new UI is a cross between the current click-wheel interface, and the more “touchable” iPhone. It’s unclear whether these are official videos or not; however, the graphics in the videos are quite good if these are in fact faked.

The design does corroborate with some of the latest patents, which continue to include click-wheels, which would lead one to assume that Apple could be designing a touchscreen click-wheel hybrid, which would upgrade everyone’s favorite music player without cannibalizing sales of the iPhone.
