Hahlo 3 out of beta

by Stephen Chinnadorai on May 4, 2008 at 05:05 PM

Hahlo 3Twitter is an amazing social network - there’s no doubt about it. Most Twitter users find themselves addicted to the thing, and therefore need ways of catching up with friends’ updates, and even posting their own on-the-go. Thanks to the iPhone’s sophisticated Safari web browser, iPhone-specific web apps using Twitter’s API can be created. In my opinion, Dean Robinson‘s Hahlo is the best iPhone Twitter web app out there.

Hahlo 3, the highly anticipated version of Hahlo, has just been released to the public and is no longer in beta testing. All users who visit Hahlo.com on their iPhone or iPod Touch will be able to notice the new features and design immediately. In addition to the newly designed user interface, Hahlo 3 has full search capabilities through Summize.

Native MobileTwitter for jailbroken iPhones

by Stephen Chinnadorai on Apr 9, 2008 at 03:31 PM

MobileTwitterThe iPhone is in need of a native Twitter client. The web apps like Hahlo and ThinCloud are great, but there’s something about a desktop-class application that just makes it “feel” better. Users with jailbroken iPhones or iPod Touches can now be satisfied with a great native Twitter client: MobileTwitter. I installed this on my iPod Touch yesterday and I love it. It’s a great alternative to Hahlo or any of the other web-based apps. Although, it does use more system resources, and therefore battery life. The interface is uncluttered and clean, like most iPhone apps. It’s now the only way I tweet from my iPod, and probably will be until the iPhone SDK is released.

For free, this app is amazing. If you’re obsessed with Twitter and tweeting on-the-go like I am, this is a must-have for you. You can download the app through Installer under community sources. Or, if you like to install things manually - you can do so at this website.

Jason Calacanis giving away MacBook Air if he becomes the #1 user on Twitter

Jason Calacanis giving away MacBook Air if he becomes the 1 user on Twitter

Yes, you read the title right. By simply following Calacanis on Twitter you could win a MacBook Air! Currently he is # 5 with 10,076 followers, and has to get about 6 000 followers to hit the top. Calacanis says that he’s “tired of getting my butt kicked by Robert Scoble and this Barack Obama guy on Twitter.” How he will pick a winner is undetermined, but he says that is will be “in some fair way.” Twitter is a great way to gain traffic to your blog and he’s said on TWiT, a technology podcast, before that Twitter is the second biggest referrer of traffic to his blog. Good luck everyone, I just followed him, and if I win I’ll definitely give a long review and not lose it in a stack of newspapers.

MoodBlast 3.1 brings Pownce support

Social updating has been increasing in popularity over the past year, with Twitter, Pownce, Jaiku and Facebook. This form of micro-blogging has become so popular with so many different services to update your status with and share information. The fix for this problem is MoodBlast. Moodblast lets you blast (or spam) all of your friends, no matter what network they use. This handy and convenient Mac app currently has support for blasting your status to Skype, iChat, Adium, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and now Pownce.

In the most recent major release of MoodBlast, 3.0, the UI was was rewritten and had vastly improved performance. MoodBlast 3.1 brings, support for Pownce, but also some bug fixes. Pownce enables you to share a variety of different message styles, and this app supports links, without you having to choose which type of message you are blasting.

MoodBlast 3.1 is a great update for all of you micro-bloggers, and is donationware from Circle Six Design.

Twitterrific 3.1 released

by Stephen Chinnadorai on Feb 29, 2008 at 11:16 AM

Twitterrific Twitterrific, the most popular Twitter client for Mac, has just been updated to version 3.1. There are several new features implemented in this version, including: new keyboard shortcuts, action menus, sorted Growl notifications and more. Twitterrific 3.1 also seems a lot more stable within Leopard, coming from a user’s perspective. Ever since the previous release of Twitterrific, it has been an ad-supported shareware application. Users who don’t want the advertisements can pay a one-time fee of $14.95. To get this update, you will need to download it from Iconfactory’s website - my Twitterrific did not automatically update, and I couldn’t find a “check for update” button within the app’s preferences panel.
