Rumor: Tablet Mac coming this fall

by Stephen Chinnadorai on May 25, 2008 at 02:47 PM

Atom Mac Tablet?According to Jason D. O’Grady of ZDNet, Apple will announce a 12 or 13-inch Mac tablet this fall – most likely in September or October. It will run the full Mac OS X that current Macs use and have a slot-loading SuperDrive that the MacBooks and MacBook Pros have. Apparently, it will use an “iPhone-type” GPS chip and an Intel Core Duo processor, that is presumably their forthcoming “Atom” chip.

No word on the design has been said—it could share the MacBook’s classic design, or sport an entirely new one. If you remember back last month Intel Germany’s CEO, Hannes Schwaderer said that an iPhone would be using their Atom processor in the future – this was quickly corrected by Apple. What Schwaderer could have been referring to is a future tablet Mac using their Atom processor, not an iPhone.

There have been rumors of a Mac tablet in the past, but only recently have they become more realistic. MacRumors have pointed out that Apple has patented several tablet designs since 1995 — is now the time when Apple truly launches a tablet platform for the Mac?

MacBook Air inspired from Pixar movie, The Incredibles?

by Nicholas Montgomery on Feb 11, 2008 at 07:20 PM

MacBook Air Inspired from Pixar Movie, the Incredibles?

Movies always have had the fanciest gadgets and Adam Christianson from the Maccast Loop thinks that the new MacBook Air was inspired by the Pixar Movie, The Incredibles. In the beginning there is a scene where the Mr. Incredible receives a secret message delivered in an envelope similar to the one featured in the MacBook Air ad. Inside the package is a super-thin tablet computer that he slips out of the envelope. This might just mean that Apple ad agency decided borrow the concept for the new laptop ad. On the podcast he also talked about how Steve Jobs was the CEO of Pixar at the time of the movie which might of inspired him to think up the MacBook Air.

Check out some more pictures after the jump.

Tip of the Iceberg

Well, though Apple pulled a fast one and released them early, Appletell’s predictions were spot on in the case of the new Mac Pros.

Our Prediction:

Penryn processors up to 8-core 3.2 GHz[...] Apple will most likely tout a 32 GB RAM ability as a new feature, even though the current Mac Pros can handle 32 GB of RAM since the introduction of 4 GB RAM Modules. Hard Drive Space will most likely be expanded to a 4 TB Max.

The iTablet: Coming January 2008?

by Michael Mistretta on Nov 30, 2007 at 09:26 AM

Is this what the iTablet looks like? Cause if it is, I’m getting one.

Looprumors has some exclusive sources, saying that the iTablet will be a totally new device, that “co-exists” with current Mac offerings, In other words, it’s not going to be a laptop as well as a tablet. It’s going to be just a small tablet that can be used as a portable Mac Communicator. The fact that this thing will only be a communicator leads me to also think that it won’t be priced more than $1000. This device is for the consumer, not the pro market. The rumors continue with talk of multi-touch 2.0.

This device is going to be geared to people who already have macs, so no, this is not going to be a full-fledged computer. The iTablet will be running a specially designed version of Mac OS X Leopard, and will work perfectly with Leopard Macs. People will able to control their computers over the internet from a remote location (no word on whether that’s for .Mac members only), video conference over the internet, and will also be able to beam (or squirt) files to other Macs or iTablets wirelessly.

Even more interesting, they are suggesting that the iTablet will have a mini-disc optical drive. This goes along with the thinking that Apple will start to offer software packages in much smaller form, by shipping them with mini-discs, and use adapters to get the min-disc in other slot-loading Macs. Interestingly, you will also be able to plug in a mouse, demonstrating that you can use many different input methods. Wireless keyboard, mouse, stylus, and finger. For the physical design of the iTablet, Looprumors is suggesting that it will be big, black, and shiny. Pretty much a big iPhone. But it won’t be that big, it is only about half the size of a Macbook’s screen.

Now for the insides, they are suggesting that it is considerably faster and more robust than the iPhone (anyone say Intel Inside?). It also includes an accelerometer, and I assume, a sudden motion sensor and ambient light detector. Finally, the rumor totally out of left field. The iTablet will use both sides to input information. What? So, there is going to be like a click-wheel on the back. I don’t know. Doesn’t sound like Apple to me. But if this device does come out at Macworld, for a reasonable amount of money, and delivers all of these features, I will be buying one. Macworld just can’t come quick enough.

MacBooks to get multi-touch?

by Paul Hillsdon on Jul 2, 2007 at 08:29 PM

Two MacBooks

You didn’t once think that Apple would keep their multi-touch technology stuck in a cell phone forever, did you? Of course not, and as Crunchgear is reporting, Apple will be putting their 200+ patents to work this fall when they release new MacBooks with multi-touch enabled touchpads. The idea is that the touchpads will evolve from their current capacities as scrolling mice and right-clickers, to add similar capabilities as the iPhone, such as the finger spreading or double tapping gestures, for new functionality. Could this be the first step to a full sized tablet mac later down the line?
