Netflix Instant Watch coming to a Mac near you soon
Being a Mac user, you’ve probably experienced more than your fair share of headaches as a result of the PC being the industry standard for just about everything. Watching online video is no exception, but Netflix is getting ready to alleviate your headaches before the end of the year with a Mac solution for watching their streaming content online.
If you’re a Netflix subscriber, you already know there are thousands of videos available online to be watched instantly...if you’re running Windows, that is. Other than this limiting factor, the system is actually pretty awesome. Just sign in, pick a movie or TV show that strikes your fancy, and seconds later you’re entertained. No waiting for disks in the mail. Plus, if you are so inclined, you can watch an entire season of a TV show in one sitting. Previously, you’d have to watch one disk’s worth of episodes, send it back, get the next disk, rinse, and repeat.
But today, Netflix has announced they will finally be providing a Mac solution for instantly watching videos online.
iTunes SD Movie rental targets missed
When announcing iTunes Movie Rentals, Steve Jobs said to expect 100 High Definition, 5.1 Surround Sound titles available for rent by February. Although Apple has made this goal, they are really short in their goal of 1,000 standard definition titles. 396 short, to be exact. Although there are 197 HD titles, of which exactly 100 are 5.1 Surround Sound, there are a relatively meager 604 SD titles. Also of note is the fact that only six (yes, only six) titles have been added to the content library since March.
This may seem very un-Apple to set a seemingly attainable goal and miss by a mile, but they managed to do so. If Apple ever wants to be a substantial competitor for Amazon’s Unboxed or Netflix’ Instant Watch, both of which have thousands of titles (it is still pretty foggy on whether or not Apple is really actually trying to compete with those two companies).

Netflix gears up for Apple’s movie rental service
Effective Monday, Netflix, the popular online movie rental service, will repeal it’s limits on how many hours of video users can stream from their servers.
Until now, Netflix controlled the amount of streaming video users could watch per month based upon their monthly rate. For instance, a user paying $16.99 per month for 3 video rentals at a time could watch 17 hours of video form Netfilx’s Watch Instantly internet streaming service.
Come Monday, all of Netflix’s subscribers, except for the very bottom end $4.99/month plan, will be able to stream unlimited titles from Netflix’s library containing more than 6,000 films. There will be no additional charge assessed.
Netflix promises instant viewing for Macs!
This year, Netflix released an instant viewing service for Windows which allowed you to watch movies on your PC (Windows). Netflix provided customers with a certain amount of hours per month depending on your subscription.
Netflix has just promised to release this service for Mac. The service is expected to launch sometime this year.
