Mac OS X / Safari share hits all-time high

by Adam Fisher-Cox on Jun 2, 2008 at 06:30 PM

SafariAccording to NetApplications, Mac OS X and Safari are continuing their upward climb on the market share ladder.

In May, Mac OS X saw a 0.45% climb in market share to 7.83%, with Safari seeing an 0.44% jump to 6.25%. Safari for Windows has been growing quite a bit in past months, but it’s a bit surprising that the rate of growth isn’t as big as one might think, given the huge percentage of installed iTunes users. PowerPC Macs were also seen steadily decreasing percentage-wise month over month.

NetApplications may not provide the most trustworthy of measurements for marketshare; they don’t reveal their methodology, and it is based entirely upon web-surfing, so non-internet connected Macs have no voice. Still, this gives a good idea of the progress of Apple.

iTunes is biggest US music retailer

by Stephen Chinnadorai on Apr 3, 2008 at 11:00 AM

iTunesAccording to recent figures from NPD MusicWatch revealed by Ars Technica, Apple has become the leading music retailer in the US, overtaking Wal-Mart for the first time. Another interesting statistic from the report is that one-in-four music sales in the US are now in the form of paid downloads: 70.9 per cent of music sold is in physical formats while 29.1 per cent is digital - while that may seem quite low, it has increased from a much lower figure in the past. Many customers prefer physical formats for music because the quality is lossless and there is no DRM attached. However, with iTunes Plus DRM-free 256kbps songs, I am more tempted to go for digital - it’s just much easier and quicker to download a song than having to buy a physical disc, especially if you’re only going to listen to it on your iPod.

Ad Infuse launches ad-serving program for iPhone

by Nicholas Montgomery on Feb 13, 2008 at 10:26 AM

iPHone DOg

Since the iPhone launched we’ve seen a Lego iPhone an, iPhone Pocket Scale, several upgrades and some pretty other crazy things. Now Ad Infuse is launching an ad serving platform for the Apple iPhone.

The San Francisco based company’s ad severs are able to recongnize when an iPhone is viewing the content and show the user content formatted for the device. . The iPhone currently has a U.S smart phone market share of 28% and 6.5% worldwide. Nokia has 52.9% worldwide and RIM has a mere 11.4% worldwide marketshare. Unlike the iPhone dog costume or iPhone BBQ Apron, this is a great idea to make the web browsing experience on the iPhone even better
