Rumor: Apple is Preparing 3G iPhones for June

by Patrick Lutz on Mar 31, 2008 at 09:47 PM

3G iPhoneMany iPhone fans are awaiting Apple’s upcoming 3G iPhone, and unfortunately for them, Apple isn’t planning on commenting until everything is ready! All people can do is speculate, and most rumors that have been floating around seem to point at a summer date (specifically June due to the public release of iPhone Software Version 2.0 and the iPhone SDK) for the release of the 3G iPhone.

Scott Craig, Bank of America analyst, said Apple will start producing 3G iPhones this May, and is expected to manufacture 3 million units and reach 11 million units by this September. If the predictions are correct, the demand for the 3G iPhone will be extremely high, and Apple’s efforts will be well worth it. “Our latest channel checks point to a significant production build of a 3G iPhone beginning in the month of June after an initial small build in May,” Craig told Reuters.

Of course, company representatives have had nothing to say about the rumors and speculations, so we’ll just have to wait a couple of months for the confirmation of these rumors, if they in fact turn out to be accurate.

How badly does Apple need to release a 3G iPhone? Pretty badly, according to analysts, if they wish to reach their goal of selling 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008. If iPhone sales haven’t been as high as Apple expected so far, a new 3G model could put the iPhone back in the spotlight. What Apple must now take into consideration is that competition on the smartphone market currently very high, especially with the coming of Google Android, and it’s not going to be easy for Apple…however, if the rumors are true and new 3G iPhones are released along with the iPhone Software Version 2.0 and the iPhone SDK, Apple should not need to worry.

Macworld 2008 keynote now available in iTunes

by Stephen Chinnadorai on Jan 18, 2008 at 01:06 PM

Keynote 2008

I streamed the whole keynote through QuickTime and didn’t have any troubles at all. If your internet connection is too slow for streaming, or you want to watch the keynote on your iPod, then you can download it through iTunes instead. It is available via the podcasts section of the iTunes store as a free download. Though, be aware, it is 889MB, which could take some time downloading and then transferring to an iPod. The quality of this download is better than streaming it - so if you haven’t watched it yet and have the patience to download 889MB, then I recommend you do so.

by Michael Yurechko on Jan 15, 2008 at 11:12 AM

Moscone

So we got about 2 hours to go until the keynote kicks off. We got a good friend of ours, Jordan Chark, sitting inside waiting to get into the keynote - he’s about 50th in line. Late yesterday Dabbledoo co-owner, Adam Berger, got an email from WaterField Design about new laptop bags to ship, if Jobs announces them today. Here’s the email:

Dear Adam,

Expect a press release late Wednesday night regarding a new laptop case to SHIP THIS FRIDAY if Steve Jobs announces a new laptop at Macworld tomorrow. Two additional custom cases will follow in a matter of weeks.

Just a heads-up to keep an eye out for it if you are interested.

I don’t know about you, but it seems like they know something we don’t, to be able to release a new case within 3 days. Well, we will find out in just under 2 hours! Stay tuned for an update on where to tune into our live audio stream, be sure to follow us on twitter. Point your browsers to Macworld.Appletell.com and get ready for the Keynote!

Sandisk SSD

Last week at CES our parent site Gadgetell had a crew covering the event, live blogging keynotes, showing off cool gadgets, etc. Well in all that hustle and bustle, one of our crew members had a small information exchange with a fairly credible source about Apple’s soon to be released MacBook Pros.

A confident Mac megasite confirms MacBook Nano

by Adam Fisher-Cox on Jan 12, 2008 at 09:50 AM

MacBook Nano Mockup

Mac Megasite’s Mike confidently says that “the MacBook Nano is go” at MacWorld. The post, if legitimate, also gives meaning to the MacWorld posters stating that “there’s something in the air.” Mike state that the new MacBook Nano sub-notebook will utilize something called “beam technology” to transfer data wirelessly even faster than Bluetooth. This is most likely the WiMax long range wireless technology that Apple may expand across it’s entire MacBook Pro lineup. According to the post, this could be the “Something in the air.”

MacWorld 2008: Third-Party and Keynote Predictions

by Adam Fisher-Cox on Jan 11, 2008 at 10:50 AM

MacWorld 2008This is part five of a five part series leading up to Macworld.

Third Party and Keynote Predictions:

Microsoft Office 2008: Microsoft Office 2008 packs a punch as the first Intel Native version of Microsoft Office. it also for the first time supports a Mac native interface that looks quite a bit like iWork (make of that what you will.) It still lacks some widely wanted features such as proper exchange support, but overall, Microsoft Office 2008 is a change for the much much better.

Intel’s Silverthorne Chip: This chip will actually be announced at CES, but is expected to be put to use in Apple’s ultra-portable notebooks. The Silverthorne chip will take less power, allowing for good battery life in the sub-notebook.

Boom! Given the nature of the announcements I’m expecting at MacWorld this year, I’m not expecting much in the way of “Boom!"s this year. “Boom!"s usually only happen when there is something speedy happening. This year is going to be all about new products and demos. We will hear a couple of “Wooo!"s, however, as the audience will give loud and long applause for at least one of the products or improvements announced this MacWorld.
