Line Rider coming to iPhone, iPod touch

by Stephen Chinnadorai on Sep 7, 2008 at 02:46 PM

Line RiderLine Rider is undoubtebly one of the most addictive flash games on the web. The popular game is set to come to the iPhone and iPod touch for the low price of $3—although some may argue that it should be free, seeing as it is free-to-play on the internet. The iPhone version of Line Rider will bring the ability of uploading and downlodaing tracks via the official Line Rider site. It will also benefit from the multi-touch interface for track creation and play; your tracks can be played out in a movie mode.

Multi Touch: beyond what you touch

by Mark Rowland on Sep 4, 2008 at 09:25 PM

multitouchadvances
When the original iPhone was introduced what now seems like so long ago, it sparked a revolution. The Multi-Touch interface that came with the iPhone changed the future of computing. Although the iPhone was not the first device to utilize this technology, it is far and away the most popular to ever hit the shelves.

Well, Apple seems to be at it again. A recent 30-page patent filing by Fingerworks, a company recently acquired by Apple, sheds some light on what could be Apple’s future plans for Multi Touch devices. In the filing, details are presented on voice fusion, finger identification fusion, gaze vector fusion, biometrics fusion, and facial expression fusion.

Read on for details.

Google Chrome: new browser, or the Cloud OS?

by Aaron Kraus on Sep 2, 2008 at 06:28 PM

Google Chrome Logo in the Cloud

By now, Google’s latest announcement is old news: there is a new browser in town.  Joining Safari, Firefox, Opera, and Internet Explorer is a new guy, by the name of Chrome.  Sporting a WebKit foundation (same as the platform Apple built Safari on), as well as a few other enhancements, Chrome promises to be a speed demon.  Buried in all the hype, however, are a few interesting bits that point to something bigger than just another browser. Chrome may, in fact, be more revolutionary than it first appears…

Apple’s September 9th event is on

by Indraneel Purohit on Sep 2, 2008 at 04:50 PM

apple sept 9
In the last month, rumors upon rumors have been swirling around, including one of a September 9th Apple event.  Today, Engadget claims that the event is indeed set for the 9th (a week from today, Tuesday the 2nd) and has a nifty image describing the event.  As pictured above, the event’s information is displayed on an iPod classic/nano interface and says the event will be in San Francisco, at 10am.  Above the info is a tagline, “Let’s Rock,” all but confirming this event will focus on the iPod line.

What will this event introduce into Apple’s iPod line? Perhaps the Kevin Rose iPod nano (as it is now known) is actually for real, given the cases already made in its form factor.  Maybe the interactive album art app will come to fruition, and become the killer app the iPhone / iPod touch still lacks.

Comment and share your thoughts on what you think the event will bring.

O2 details pay-as-you-go iPhone plans

by Mark Rowland on Sep 1, 2008 at 07:40 PM

o2payasyougoWe thought this day would never come, but the moment is upon us. O2, the sole carrier of the popular iPhone in the UK, has officially announced its new Pay-As-You-Go plan for English iPhone users.

Although you will be forking over a hefty sum for the actual device—£350 ($631) for the 8GB Model and £400 ($721) for the 16GB model—monthly costs will be reduced a fair bit. Should you choose to go the cheapest route, you will only be paying between £10 and £14 ($18 and $25) for 500 minutes that can be used to phone any UK land line or O2 cell number. One step up from that and you will be paying between £15 and £29 ($27 and $52) for 1,000 minutes, also only to land lines and O2 cells. The third and final option weighs in at £30+ ($54+), and nets you an unlimited number of calls.

Details (including add-ons) after the break.

Apple, Snow Patrol and others to offer Interactive Album App for iPhone/iPod touch

by Indraneel Purohit on Sep 1, 2008 at 01:00 PM

iphone app snow patrol
Apple is working with Snow Patrol, an Irish Alternative band, on a new iPhone/iPod touch application that will allow users to (you guessed it) pay for interactive content for the band’s upcoming album, “A Hundred Million Suns.” The app will utilize the touchscreen, and provide a very new spin on the old Album liner booklets. As Polydor, Snow Patrol’s label, production manager Liz Goodwin says, “It will be an interactive element; a digital booklet that will take you into the videos and content. For fans, it will be a real must-have, and the fact that they are the first band to do this gives us an additional angle for exposure.”

This seems like a cool idea for die-hard fans of the band, and if Apple was to partner with other bands that are even more popular, then the mass of people would be excited about something like this, which seems superfluous. However, Apple will probably make a lot of money, from the simple idea that one no longer has to buy a CD to have all the additional information that comes with one.

iPhone tethering in the works?

by Adam Fisher-Cox on Aug 30, 2008 at 08:01 AM

AT&T
An adequately unsourced claim paired with a strong desire for iPhone tethering has created this news item:

A Gizmodo reader says that after firing off an e-mail to sjobs at Apple (which works well, for the record) he got one of those rare Steve responses… sent from an iPhone no less.

Check out the dialogue after the break.

App Store free apps round-up - August 29, 2008

by Jake Gaecke on Aug 29, 2008 at 07:00 PM

Free Apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch
This week I was a little extra appreciative of developers who choose to offer a free, or lite version of their apps. This allows the potential buyers to get their fingers on the app and see if it’s really something that could work for them. And if the app is as awesome as the developer thinks it is, the paid version is just a few clicks away. So, here’s my list this week that consists of apps that have bigger paid brothers elsewhere on the App Store.
