Apple rolls out iDVD 7.0.2
Opening day of WWDC ‘08 appeared to kick off a string of software updates from Apple. Quicktime was updated to Quicktime 7.5 and iMovie has been updated to iMovie 7.1.2. Following close behind was an update to iDVD ‘08, which has been updated to iDVD 7.0.2. The download is 20.27MB.
Logging onto Apple’s support page, you’ll find that the update “fixes general compatibility issues, improves overall stability, and addresses a number of other minor issues.” However, if you are searching for additional information about the update, Apple isn’t talking about it. I’ve found that annoying, and always wished Apple would release more information about its updates.
More after the jump.
Apple releases iMovie 7.1.2
Today, Mac users received an iMovie update. Apple has released iMovie 7.1.2. Apple usually doesn’t reveal too much information about its updates, and the iMovie update isn’t any different. When you log onto the Apple support website, the message states, “This update addresses general compatibility issues, improves overall stability, and addresses a number of other minor issues.” The download is 17.9MB.
iMovie is a fabulous movie application developed by Apple, Inc., which allows users to create their own movies. I purchased my 17” MacBook Pro almost two years ago, and iMovie was an application I used often. I’ve since moved on to Final Cut Express. iMovie was originally released by Apple in 1999 as a Mac OS 8 application.

Get iLife ‘08 for just $10
Yea, you read that right. If you happened to buy a Mac recently with iLife ‘06 installed, you might be eligible for a cheap upgrade to iLife ‘08. iLife ‘08 brings improvements across the board to iPhoto, Garageband, iWeb, iDVD and iMovie (although some will dispute the last one).
Your Mac must’ve been purchased on or after 7th August, and has to have iLife ‘06 installed (not much point giving you an upgrade if you’ve already got the latest version). In addition, you’ll need to check out this list for all qualifying machines.

iPhoto now updated to version 7.0.2
It seems that Apple was under a tight dateline with the development of iLife ‘08, judging from the number of updates in the past 2 weeks. We’ve already seen patches and updates for iPhoto, iMovie and iWeb. Unfortunately, iPhoto seems to be the buggiest of the lot, because there’s another patch (version 7.0.2) waiting for you.
Overview of Garageband 4.0
Garageband is an intuitive application that lots of podcasters/musicians/movie makers utilize. MacWorld recently took a look at the new features introduced with iLife ‘08 earlier this week and claimed that the application has been very well refined, if not revolutionary.
Some of the most notable new features include Magic Garageband (a way to create a “virtual band"), arrangements (which separate your work into verses/chorus), multiple takes, Visual EQ and musical notation printing. Garageband now supports 24-bit audio, bringing clearer and crisper sound.
iLife ‘08 is available for purchase at an Apple retailer near you. What do you think of Garageband 4.0?

iLife ‘08 users can get iMovie ‘06 for free
Apple has been receiving some complaints regarding the new and improved iMovie ‘08. The new version of iMovie comes from what was described as a complete re-write from iMovie HD 6, but it seems that some of the key features from iMovie HD 6 have been left out of the new and improved version. iMovie ‘08 has left off support for plugins, themes, multiple audio tracks and timeline view.
Due to the recent complaints Apple has made iMovie HD 6 version 6.04 available as a free download for iLife ‘08 owners. If you have already installed iLife ‘08 and want to go back you can get the download for free from Apple. Keep in mind that just because you installed iLife ‘08 does not mean that iMovie HD 6 has been removed from your Mac, it just moves it to another location so a quick search will most likely locate it for you. Either way its always nice to see a company step up to complaints and take care of the customer, hopefully we can see these missing features added to iMovie ‘08 in future updates.
