iPod Funeral

by Jason Tabrys on Apr 28, 2008 at 07:50 AM

ifuneralIt was so young, so full of vigor, singing its songs, always looking fashionable with its wardrobe of cases and sleeves. Not a care in the world. And then quite suddenly and without warning the sickness came, an error, a blinking signal, and then the cold silence. Technology can leave a void in your life to when it leaves you, without warning or an alternate digital music device. Nothing can prepare you for that first day you reach down to play “Jason’s Funky Get Down Dance Mix” and nothing is there, no Ipod, no Earth, Wind, and Fire...well maybe the wind. Blowing through your heart as Eric Carmen’s “All By Myself” plays in your heart, not your earbuds.

Apple breaks streak of weekly updates? Not quite

by Adam Fisher-Cox on Mar 5, 2008 at 11:12 AM

Apple Logo

This Tuesday was the first Tuesday since the beginning of 2008 that Apple did not announce a product. Looking back on the remarks Steve Jobs made at Macworld 2008, most specifically his implication that we would see an update every week, it seems they have fallen short on their promise. Not so. This Thursday, Apple will unveil the iPhone/iPod Touch SDK. So many are forgetting that to count in the week, Apple doesn’t have to release a product on a Tuesday.

So now the question becomes, can Apple really release something on every single Tuesday of the year? In my opinion, they easily can. Apple this year has changed their approach to updates, seemingly forgoing the “events” where they unveil one or more products at a time. Instead, they have released something every week with no prior announcement. Whether it is small, like the addition of a 2 GB iPod Shuffle, or big, like the MacBook Air, or even a price change, I see Apple as easily filling up the year with updates.

Baseball-meets-iMacIn the past, Apple Products have proven to be pretty rugged machines, still working after taking bullets left and right, and even being run-over. With that being said there are many other less-spectacular situations that have rendered Apple Products useless. I’m sure that many of you have suffered the loss of an iPod or MacBook because of throwing dropping it, or the screen/case getting cracked.

If you need a place to share your pain and heart-ache, you can join the Flickr group devoted to “Maccidents.” From battery swelling MacBook Pros to “Baseball-meets-screen” iMacs, this group has the basics covered. With only 15 members and 13 photos, I’m sure that you can contribute some “Maccidents” from your own experiences. Warning: If you cringe at the sight of broken Apples, this group may not be for you. You have been warned.
