Rare new iPod nano features discovered: failure and deformation
First generation iPod nano owners, listen up. If your iPod nano was purchased between September of 05 and December of 06, then you might have some “hot” features you don’t want.
Macworld has an article that details Apple recognition that “in very rare cases” (about 0.001 percent) said iPods could overheat. Apple is blaming the problem on an unnamed battery supplier. The faulty batteries can, in some instances, overheat, causing “failure and deformation of the iPod Nano.”

Visit Apple’s Cupertino campus… for free!
Apple may have recently passed Google in market value, but there seems to be no hard feelings between the two companies.
Google has updated their street view with images from Apple campus in Cupertino. I don’t know about you, but I’ve always kind of wanted to see what Apple’s headquarters looks like. This can’t replace the real thing, but for free, it’s fun. You can take a virtual stroll down 1 Infinite Loop. Now, if only I could go to the Apple company store and buy some Apple branded T-Shirts, my tour would be complete!

Psystar “definitely still shipping” its Mac clones.
On Wednesday, Psystar, the company now famous for cheap Mac clones, posted a note to its website stating that even during its ongoing lawsuit from Apple, it will still be shipping Open Computers.

Apple now worth more than Google
Apple’s market value today rose above that of Google, whose CEO, Eric Schmidt, sits on Apple’s board of directors.
This makes Apple the third most valuable computer services out there behind IBM and the goliath Microsoft.

iPhone 3G has a bad 3G chipset?
GigaOm is reporting on some recent issues with the iPhone 3G. Om, and others, have been complaining about what they call poor 3G reception with the new iPhone. Om quotes Richard Windsor, an analyst with Nomura Securities, who has a possible explanation.
We believe that these issues are typical of an immature chipset and radio protocol stack where we are almost certain Infineon is the 3G supplier.

Apple to introduce dedicated movie chips?
Now that we’re pretty certain something is in the pipes for a September Apple event, let’s start sifting through rumors. One notable rumor has to do with possible changes to the inner workings of certain Macintosh Laptops and Desktops. For a long time, Apple has been regarded as the company to go to if your computing needs fall in a more creative range than what is offered with a PC. At the top of that list for creative computing needs is movie making. With Apple’s many applications just for this (iMovie, iDVD, Final Cut, Shake), Apple has taken out (most of) the guesswork when it comes to putting your clips into a polished home movie. Now, should these rumors prove to be true, Apple may hope to go the extra mile when it comes to ease of use for their movie editing software.

Some thoughts on Apple’s relationship with Microsoft
With Bill Gates’ departure from his everyday role at Microsoft having happened over a month ago now, I thought it might be a good time to reflect on what this means for Apple’s relationship with Microsoft, and vice versa.
I think that despite Bill’s obvious place in the Windows-based world, he still has and has always had a certain affinity for the Mac platform and many of Apple’s products. Let’s not forget that Bill was so very involved in software for the original Macintosh, and agreed to form probably Apple’s single most important partnership that, in my opinion, likely saved Apple from going under in the late 90s.

Ongoing problems with MacBook Pro ripples
An Appletell reader has drawn our attention to a graphics problem that seems to have been plaguing some MacBook and MacBook Pro owners at least since the beginning of the year. According to the conversation in this thread (and a few others, apparently), some MacBooks are having trouble drawing high-contrast, text-heavy pages, resulting in the ripple effect you see above.
The thread is filled with possible solutions (from switching monitor resolutions to replacing the graphics card), none of which seem to work for everyone. Of course, it being an Apple thread, there’s also a hefty helping of that sweet, sweet hyperbole.

Still think working for Apple would be like heaven?
Sometimes at night I have a dream that I work for Apple. I see myself being best buds with Steve, him showing me all the secret iphone nanos and aluminum MacBooks, and letting me test them. Of course, this dream probably couldn’t be further from the truth for most Apple employees. A lawsuit has been filed against Apple, claiming the company has violated California State law by denying overtime pay and meal benefits to many of its IT workers.
The article that appeared in Information Week about the suit describes working conditions similar to “indentured servitude.”
