by Jake Gaecke on Aug 26, 2008 at 02:01 PM

Apple Special Event September 9thMacRumors is collecting some rumors in one article about a possible date for Apple’s next new product announcement. All sources seem to converge on September 9th.

Originally, MacRumors had listed this event as an unverified rumor and didn’t pay a lot of attention to it. But since Kevin Rose, ArsTechnica, and Brian Lam from Gizmodo have all voiced their info and have pretty much agreed on September 9th, they, and we, are paying a little more attention.

Find out to what else the rumors point after the break.

Goodbye, Tris, we miss you already [Update]

by Jake Gaecke on Aug 25, 2008 at 10:57 PM

Tris free Tetris You may remember my favorite Tetris clone, Tris, that was released in the App Store in the second week of August. In my opinion, it is the best Tetris clone available, and quite possibly the best free game on the App Store as of this writing.  But, that’s not going to last. No, soon it will not be the best free game on the App Store; mostly because it won’t be available.

Find out why after the break.

Rare new iPod nano features discovered: failure and deformation

by Jake Gaecke on Aug 19, 2008 at 09:08 PM

iPod Nano first generation deformed
First generation iPod nano owners, listen up. If your iPod nano was purchased between September of 05 and December of 06, then you might have some “hot” features you don’t want.

Macworld has an article that details Apple recognition that “in very rare cases” (about 0.001 percent) said iPods could overheat. Apple is blaming the problem on an unnamed battery supplier. The faulty batteries can, in some instances, overheat, causing “failure and deformation of the iPod Nano.”

Visit Apple’s Cupertino campus… for free!

by Jake Gaecke on Aug 16, 2008 at 02:00 PM

Google's Street View of Cupertino 1 Infinite Loop
Apple may have recently passed Google in market value, but there seems to be no hard feelings between the two companies.

Google has updated their street view with images from Apple campus in Cupertino. I don’t know about you, but I’ve always kind of wanted to see what Apple’s headquarters looks like. This can’t replace the real thing, but for free, it’s fun. You can take a virtual stroll down 1 Infinite Loop. Now, if only I could go to the Apple company store and buy some Apple branded T-Shirts, my tour would be complete!

Check out the map after the break.

iPhone 3G has a bad 3G chipset?

by Jake Gaecke on Aug 12, 2008 at 06:30 PM

iPhone 3G ChipSetGigaOm is reporting on some recent issues with the iPhone 3G. Om, and others, have been complaining about what they call poor 3G reception with the new iPhone. Om quotes Richard Windsor, an analyst with Nomura Securities, who has a possible explanation.

We believe that these issues are typical of an immature chipset and radio protocol stack where we are almost certain Infineon is the 3G supplier.
