Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Release 1

by Stephen Chinnadorai on Apr 30, 2008 at 06:51 AM

Software UpdateFunnily enough, I was just waiting for Apple to release this. Since I just installed Woopra, a new statistics tracking software, on my website - and it requires Java SE6 on the Mac. Unfortunately, the latest Java SDK doesn’t run on 32-bit Macs - which means my Core Duo MacBook won’t be able to run it. However, all of Apple’s newest products are Core 2 Duo, and are 64-bit (if running Leopard). The update is available for download from Apple’s website or Software Update if you have a compatible Mac.

This latest update adds support for Java SE 6 version 1.6.0_05. This update does not replace your current install of Java on your Mac, it just adds support for SE 6. It requires a 64-bit Intel Mac with Mac OS X 10.5.2

New Leopard screenshots posted

by Marvin Sum on Jun 16, 2007 at 02:00 PM

Leopard Screenshot
Wired News managed to obtain a developers preview of Leopard, reporting that it installed quickly without problems on a quad-core Mac Pro. The interface was apparently very slick and smooth, giving the desktop a “space-age gloss”. In addition, Wired also posted screenshots of the new iCal and three new screensavers: Arabesque, Retro and Spectrum.

Unfortunately, Apple Legal didn’t seem too pleased as it sent a cease and decease letter for the screenshots to be taken down. They’re off the site as we speak, but luckily for us, Google still has a copy of it cached. Apple seemed to have something important to hide, judging by its reaction to the posted screenshots.

Perhaps there are more secret features for us to look forward to?

by Robert Nelson on Jun 15, 2007 at 11:00 AM

Mac OS X Leopard version 10.5Amazon.com has begun to take pre-orders for Mac OS 10.5 Leopard, scheduled to be released and shipped in October. For just $129.00 you can secure your copy of Leopard today, of course you will have to wait till October to get hands on with it but at least you can relax knowing its already ordered. Currently it is ranked as #2 in Software for sales on Amazon, but I would not be surprised to see a #1 ranking soon.
