01:47 PMBill Stiteler said:

No change in the design?

01:47 PMBill Stiteler said:

iPhone 3GS: S stands for “speed.”

01:44 PMBill Stiteler said:

Phil’s back.

01:44 PMBill Stiteler said:

Don’t charge the corner, Steve!

01:41 PMBill Stiteler said:

What’s this? Steve Jobs is rushing the stage with a folding chair!

01:41 PMBill Stiteler said:

*twiddles thumbs*

01:41 PMKirk Hiner said:

More technical difficulties. It’s a sign. GET OFF THE STAGE!

01:39 PMBill Stiteler said:

I really need an OS 3 app taht makes this presentation go faster.

01:39 PMKirk Hiner said:

Line 6 and Planet Waves have a pretty looking app for connecting your iPhone to a guitar + amp, but again, this is late evening press release stuff. Not Apple Keynote stuff.

01:39 PMBill Stiteler said:

You can now use your iPhone as a wah-wah pedal. Well, actually, you can hook it up to an amp and a guitar and get effects.

01:38 PMBill Stiteler said:

Steve never would’ve put up with this.

01:38 PMBill Stiteler said:

Another developer?

01:38 PMKirk Hiner said:

“Can anyone with an iPhone steal your car? News at 11!”

01:38 PMBill Stiteler said:

CAN THE IPHONE CAN UNLOCK YOUR CAR… WITH YOUR CHILDREN INSIDE?

01:37 PMBill Stiteler said:

Ha. You can unlock the car using your iPhone. Wait until the local news hears about this.

01:37 PMKirk Hiner said:

This is the easiest keynote I’ve ever had to cover. Speed typing not required today.

01:36 PMBill Stiteler said:

Tap a map, it shows you were the nearest car is. Wait, isn’t this Grand Theft Auto 4?

01:36 PMKirk Hiner said:

Does anyone need a car 24/7?

01:35 PMBill Stiteler said:

Now demoing Zipcar, which is a car borrowing service for people who don’t need a car 24/7.

01:34 PMBill Stiteler said:

Okay, I guess this is going to two hours.

01:34 PMKirk Hiner said:

Do developers really want to see other developers’ work?

01:34 PMBill Stiteler said:

Five bucks says some kid gets arrested using his iPhone to play doctor

01:33 PMKirk Hiner said:

I’m going to develop a map that monitors radiation levels so it can be a prop in a 50s sci-fi movie.

01:32 PMBill Stiteler said:

demoing an app that lets users record scientific data… the iPhone is now officially a tricorder.

01:32 PMKirk Hiner said:

I feel like the judge at a science fair. Where’s the kid with the baking soda volcano app?

01:31 PMBill Stiteler said:

Are they going to let every iPhone developer show off their project?

01:30 PMKirk Hiner said:

And…more developers.

01:30 PMKirk Hiner said:

Well, there’s SOMETHING that’s available today. Star Defense. Have at it.

01:29 PMBill Stiteler said:

Boy, imagine if Apple had given this much of a damn about games in ‘84?

01:28 PMBill Stiteler said:

Running out of time for the iPhone 3G… gonna be blood if we don’t see it.

01:28 PMKirk Hiner said:

Yeah, running out of room for any sort of big announcement.

01:27 PMBill Stiteler said:

Can you tell us when we can have the damn thing?

01:27 PMBill Stiteler said:

Look, we know OS 3 is amazing. THAT’S WHY WE’RE HERE.

01:27 PMKirk Hiner said:

ngmoco:) is up next. These guys are good.

01:26 PMBill Stiteler said:

Also powers iPhone, lets you play music, and boosts GPS

01:26 PMKirk Hiner said:

Yep, optional car kit to hang it off your window, and such.

01:25 PMBill Stiteler said:

Realtime GPS. I assume you’ll need to buy a subscription, rather than just an app.

01:24 PMKirk Hiner said:

Apps and accessories to complete the package.

01:23 PMBill Stiteler said:

GPS maker TomTom is up now. Interesting to see how this works against Maps.

01:23 PMKirk Hiner said:

Hey, TomTom. This’ll please the GPS masses.

01:23 PMKirk Hiner said:

By the way, I dig the new transparent blue tint of the pop-up windows. You’ll all see what I mean in the screen shots and video.

01:23 PMBill Stiteler said:

Textbooks on the iPhone. And a million college bookstores cried out in anguish.

01:22 PMBill Stiteler said:

And the Iphone declares war on the Kindle. Yo-ho!

01:22 PMKirk Hiner said:

Looks like Apple is going after the kindle, although the two really don’t compare.

01:22 PMBill Stiteler said:

Megan Fox is AOK, but the Kama Sutra is a no-no, kids!

01:21 PMBill Stiteler said:

Demoing how you can buy a magazine or book using their app.

01:20 PMBill Stiteler said:

Digital Books!? Those are the pornographic tools of Satan!
At least, according to the iPhone approvers.

01:20 PMBill Stiteler said:

Question: who’s really going to be monitoring this?

01:19 PMBill Stiteler said:

Very Star Trek. Wonder if they’ll build this into Nike+ iPod?

01:19 PMKirk Hiner said:

Streams EKG.

01:18 PMKirk Hiner said:

I’ll laugh if he talks about an app that’ll predict the date of your death.

01:18 PMBill Stiteler said:

Allows people to update their doctors with their medical info over 3G and wifi.

01:17 PMBill Stiteler said:

Sort of the the same thing they did at the OS3 announcment. Now we’re talking to a medical developer.

01:16 PMBill Stiteler said:

Which was, of course, “so baaaaad.”

01:16 PMKirk Hiner said:

Racing games go well with the iPhone, but yeah…something new, please.

01:16 PMBill Stiteler said:

Am I the only person who hates the tilt interface? Reminds me of the Nintendo Power Glove.

01:16 PMBill Stiteler said:

Hurray, a racing game. i don’t care

01:16 PMKirk Hiner said:

Don’t they always, though? At least it’s Gameloft…pretty big in the mobile gaming world.

01:15 PMBill Stiteler said:

I hate when these product announcements turn into a commercial.

01:14 PMKirk Hiner said:

Obligatory parade of developers showing off what they’ve done with iPhone 3.0.

01:14 PMBill Stiteler said:

Oh god, another video?

01:13 PMKirk Hiner said:

And now, Push notification.

01:13 PMKirk Hiner said:

Developers get access to the “heart” of Google Maps to use in their own apps.

01:11 PMKirk Hiner said:

Better integration/functionality with hardware accessory manufacturers. This is something else we knew, but hopefully we’ll see some cool products here.

01:11 PMKirk Hiner said:

Peer to peer support for finding close proximity gamers.

01:10 PMKirk Hiner said:

Hopefully, that’ll result in better games. I’m all for this.

01:10 PMBill Stiteler said:

Subsscription-based purchasing for magazines and game levels

01:09 PMKirk Hiner said:

You can erase all data remotely. That’s cool…but dangerous.

01:08 PMBill Stiteler said:

You can remotely erase your phone if you think its been stolen, then back it up if you do get it back.

01:08 PMBill Stiteler said:

If someone finds your phone, they can call you to tell you.

01:08 PMKirk Hiner said:

I subscribe to Mobile Me. I deserve that perk. Take that, everyone else!

01:07 PMBill Stiteler said:

it can even play an alert sound in silent mode so you can find it.

01:07 PMBill Stiteler said:

Log into a web browser, and you’ll see a map of where your phone is.

01:07 PMBill Stiteler said:

to use Find My iphone, you have to have MobileMe. Sneaky, apple.

01:06 PMKirk Hiner said:

That’s what my kids are for. Also, find the remote.

01:06 PMBill Stiteler said:

Find my Iphone feature!

01:05 PMKirk Hiner said:

Support for more than 30 languages in iPhone 3.0.

01:05 PMBill Stiteler said:

30 languages, now supported: all have landscape keyboard

01:05 PMBill Stiteler said:

Multilingual support: tap a button, switch languages.

01:04 PMKirk Hiner said:

Again, though, just catching us up with the competition.

01:04 PMBill Stiteler said:

Hey, we’re finally getting autofill for usernames and passwords.

01:04 PMKirk Hiner said:

Autofill in user names and passwords, contact info, etc. Nice.

01:04 PMBill Stiteler said:

HTTP streaming for video now supported.

01:03 PMKirk Hiner said:

HTTP streaming audio and video. Does that include Flash, then?

01:03 PMBill Stiteler said:

Not taht I HAVE an iPhone, but it really speaks to the state of cell phone carriers in the US

01:03 PMKirk Hiner said:

Imagine that. Good thing we have writers overseas, eh?

01:03 PMBill Stiteler said:

Sigh… no AT&T support at launch. Sucksville.

01:02 PMBill Stiteler said:

Works for Macs or PCs over bluetooth or USB

12:58 PMBill Stiteler said:

Landscape now works in email, notes

12:58 PMKirk Hiner said:

Landscape in e-mail and such. Again, catching us up with the Pre.

12:57 PMKirk Hiner said:

Hopefully, this is the setup for bigger things. Otherwise, Palm Pre this weekend, you know?

12:57 PMBill Stiteler said:

To undo: shake the phone.

12:56 PMBill Stiteler said:

Copy Paste, Undo. We knew this.

12:56 PMBill Stiteler said:

More than 100 new features.

12:55 PMBill Stiteler said:

OS 3. Finally.

12:55 PMBill Stiteler said:

“Cause I was over in the next town over, and they said that the iPhone WASN’T a good platform!”

12:55 PMKirk Hiner said:

Whoot! Whoot! Whoot!

12:55 PMBill Stiteler said:

“Hey, is there anyone here who likes… SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT???”

12:54 PMBill Stiteler said:

Just to remind everyone that if you can get your app ON the iPhone, it’s great.

12:53 PMBill Stiteler said:

It’s a video for developers about developers and how much they love the iPhone.

12:53 PMKirk Hiner said:

More fast forward material in the video when you check it out later today.

12:51 PMKirk Hiner said:

I mean, we’re watching one, yeah. I’m not saying the iPhone Video was announced…yet.

12:50 PMKirk Hiner said:

12:50 PMBill Stiteler said:

video from developers, most likely NOT talking about teh secretive and draconian approval process.

12:49 PMBill Stiteler said:

12:48 PMBill Stiteler said:

SDK for 2.0 came out less than a year ago. Wonder if they’ve sold any apps?

12:48 PMKirk Hiner said:

EVeryone, come back from your break. This is where it gets good.

12:48 PMBill Stiteler said:

Drag entries from Address book into iCal to set up meetings.

12:45 PMBill Stiteler said:

iCal works with Exchange to schedule meetings. Kind of like how Entourage does it in one app.

12:42 PMBill Stiteler said:

Autodiscover should take care of teh config for you (hallelujah): just enter your name and password.

12:42 PMBill Stiteler said:

I’m not sure if this is a good thing: I like keeping my work and home accounts completely separate. Wonder if MS will kill off Entourage.

12:42 PMKirk Hiner said:

That may be useful.

12:41 PMBill Stiteler said:

Exchange support in Mail, iCal, and Address Book

12:41 PMKirk Hiner said:

Or DID he?!

12:41 PMBill Stiteler said:

Oh, pishaw, Kirk, he disappeared after his face was horribly disfigured.

12:40 PMKirk Hiner said:

Would Jobs tolerate spending this much time on this? It’s like Amelio is hiding in the rafters.

12:40 PMBill Stiteler said:

Stop talking technobabble! Show me more things I can’t afford!

12:39 PMBill Stiteler said:

Blah de blah de blah. nerd stuff now.

12:39 PMKirk Hiner said:

People will be fast forwarding through this when they make the video live later today.

12:38 PMBill Stiteler said:

Talking about multithreading, and how Multi core chips use it.

12:37 PMKirk Hiner said:

Okay, this is where we lose everyone with the spec numbers. Take a break, have a tasty beverage. Click that Digg button. Whatever floats your boat.

12:36 PMBill Stiteler said:

Memory limit: 16 billion GB or RAM. Uhm…

12:36 PMBill Stiteler said:

12:35 PMBill Stiteler said:

And now, the wonders of 64 bit software.

12:35 PMBill Stiteler said:

1 click to upload to Youtube and MobileMe.

12:34 PMKirk Hiner said:

Cool. It’ll be more useful to me now than iMovie is.

12:34 PMBill Stiteler said:

Which makes sense, considering they give iMovie away, but still: nice to see.

12:34 PMBill Stiteler said:

Oh wow. They’re going to give basic editing away for free in Quicktime now.

12:33 PMKirk Hiner said:

It’s a whole new QuickTime 10, but we new that from the shiny new icon.

12:33 PMBill Stiteler said:

Safari 4 can browser history like iTunes album covers.

12:32 PMKirk Hiner said:

$29. Nice.

12:32 PMBill Stiteler said:

concerned that Safari 4 Top Sites shows all the LOL pr0n you’ve been browsing? We have a fix!

12:32 PMKirk Hiner said:

The Missing Manual people are toasting right now. There’s a lot of new stuff to learn here.

12:31 PMBill Stiteler said:

Snow Leopard will be $29 and available in September. Hot damn.

12:31 PMKirk Hiner said:

New ways to organize your desktop, bringing Expose and the Dock and Command Tab into one feature.

12:29 PMKirk Hiner said:

Scrolling through PDFs straight from the icon looks pretty cool. And handy.

12:29 PMBill Stiteler said:

You can play a movie in its thumbnail.

12:29 PMBill Stiteler said:

Subfolders within stacks are now scrollable.

12:28 PMBill Stiteler said:

Craig Federighi up next

12:28 PMKirk Hiner said:

iTunes is taking over too much of the Mac UI.

12:28 PMBill Stiteler said:

Not sure how I feel about that.

12:28 PMBill Stiteler said:

Adopting teh video interface of iTunes.

12:27 PMBill Stiteler said:

Changing the GUI of Quicktime? Uh oh…

12:27 PMKirk Hiner said:

12:27 PMBill Stiteler said:

Qicktime 10: color correction, HTTP streaming

12:27 PMBill Stiteler said:

Quicktime 10. Crap. Time to buy another pro license.

12:26 PMBill Stiteler said:

Safari 4 is 50% faster, and uses 64 bit architecture

12:25 PMBill Stiteler said:

Also the number one reason I won’t give up Firefox.

12:25 PMBill Stiteler said:

Number 1 cause of crashes across all of Mac OS X is browser plugins

12:25 PMBill Stiteler said:

Hopefully they fixed the bug that screwed up CS4 installations.

12:24 PMBill Stiteler said:

Sorry, Safari 4 IS finalized.

12:24 PMBill Stiteler said:

Safari 4 will be finalized. Faster on a Mac than any other browser.

12:24 PMBill Stiteler said:

Chinese characters can now be “drawn” on the Trackpad. Lots of things being made faster (moving mail)

12:23 PMBill Stiteler said:

That’s good news for me: something I do a lot.

12:23 PMBill Stiteler said:

They’re finally fixing text selection in PDFs using preview.

12:23 PMKirk Hiner said:

Is that even possible? It’s like Mystery Hill where water flows up!

12:22 PMBill Stiteler said:

After you install Snow Leopard, you’ll get 6 GB back. Install is also faster.

12:22 PMKirk Hiner said:

I guess that means I’ll have to start using Expose.

12:21 PMBill Stiteler said:

Expose is being written into the Dock.

12:21 PMKirk Hiner said:

Seems nearly everything is being refined in Snow Leopard. I wouldn’t have thought that much needed refining.

12:20 PMBill Stiteler said:

Rewritten the basic code of the finder without changing it. Huh?

12:20 PMBill Stiteler said:

One of the improvements in Snow Leopard is Exchange support. Wait, didn’t you just say Windows wasn’t working?

12:20 PMKirk Hiner said:

I don’t think Apple needs to be kicking Microsoft when they’re done. We’re starting to look like the bad guys.

12:19 PMBill Stiteler said:

“No user should have to use disk defragmenter.” Yeah, but it takes me an hour to repair permissions…

12:18 PMKirk Hiner said:

Like wrestlers going for the face pop by mentioning the home town.

12:18 PMBill Stiteler said:

Talking smack about Vista: always good for a laugh.

12:17 PMBill Stiteler said:

Moving on to Leopard now.

12:17 PMKirk Hiner said:

On to Snow Leopard. I’m still hoping for something more on the hardware line.

12:17 PMBill Stiteler said:

13” macbook also gets a backlit keyboard, by the way

12:17 PMBill Stiteler said:

Man, this is a lot of stuff they’re throwing at us… I can’t help but wonder what the Big Announcement is.

12:16 PMKirk Hiner said:

$1,500 is now the low end for the MacBook Air, too.

12:16 PMBill Stiteler said:

Macbook air is getting updated… no surprise there.

12:16 PMKirk Hiner said:

What’s replacing the MacBook, then? A Netbook, maybe?

12:15 PMBill Stiteler said:

Quick request of our readers before we get going. If you’re enjoying the blog, do us a favor and give us a DIGG on the button up there on your left. It’ll make my boss so very happy.

11:52 AMKirk Hiner said:

Oh. Bill. I didn’t see you there.

11:51 AMBill Stiteler said:

Okay, let’s do this.

11:47 AMKirk Hiner said:

Apple keynote music selection question; does Apple select bands because they’re trendy, or does being played during an Apple keynote make you trendy? Discuss.

11:46 AMKirk Hiner said:

My promise to our readers…if my allergies act up during the blog, I won’t let it affect our posts. That’s because I care.

The press is now inside the hall.

11:25 AMKirk Hiner said:

Right now, this kind of all serves as a painful reminder that we won’t be experiencing this type of excitement at next year’s Macworld Expo.

11:23 AMKirk Hiner said:

I’m amused by the number of companies sending out press releases today. Do they think anything other than the keynote is going to get coverage?

If you’re here early and looking for something to do, let me suggest our iPhone rumor roundup.

Of all the rumors and speculation going on, I’ll be thrilled if we just get a new iPhone, available today. My first gen phone could use a replacement this afternoon.

Phil Schiller may still be sleeping, but I’m up, eagerly anticipating today’s announcements. Kind of wish I could do this directly from an Apple Store, so I could just turn around and buy whatever’s announced.

Can’t wait to see what the Apple gang brings us. Of course I’m hoping the new iPhone hardware announcement is in the mix as well as an update and an actual release date for Snow Leopard but I’ll take pretty much anything they can throw at us. Not sure about the Macbook/Macbook Pro announcements but it would be sweet. I’ve read recently that a couple folks believe there could be a new and secret product announcement, I’m not holding my breath on that one but if it does happen it will feel like Christmas morning when I was 8. Even before the keynote begins, here’s to Apple and today’s event! Hip Hip Hooray! If I were to win a Just Mobile Xtand for iPhone on top of all that Apple will bring to us today? I don’t know what I would do! Talk about the proverbial “cherry on top”!

To be honest, I’m hoping for the new iPhone hardware is part of today’s announcement because I’m quite sick of the PalmPre people already (even with their new cool gadgets).

I’m also psyched about a release date for Snow Leopard.

    Please .... please.
