WhosHere app brings a pseudo-MMS functionality to the iPhone

by Arnold Zafra on Sep 23, 2008 at 09:19 AM

WhosHere iPhone AppmyRete, creator and developer of the proximity networking app for the iPhone called WhosHere, has just added a new feature to the application, and it is actually something which we all have been wanting: MMS sending capability. Although the feature is not really outright MMS functionality, it does the job, and does it pretty well. WhosHere, which is currently in beta version .098, allows you to send up to 10 images a day to any iPhone or iPod Touch users OTA for free.

But the image sending capability is just an added feature of WhosHere. More importantly, it is a social proximity application for meeting friends or potential dates. When you upload and install the free app into your iPhone, you will answer six questions about yourself and who you are interested in meeting. The app will then show matches who are near your location. Right there and then, you can send unlimited free text messages to those people within the WhosHere app. And, of course, what happens next is up to you.

Other features of WhosHere let you remove profiles from your Chats history screen, time stamp text and picture messages, offer support for hundreds of international characters and provide faster loading of profiles and pictures.

Here’s more from the words of myRete’s co-founder, Stephen R. Smith:

From day one, WhosHere has enabled users to interact with each other regardless of how their devices are connected and where they are physcially located in that moment in time. So, you could be in your house on your iPod touch, obviously, connected via Wi-Fi. I can be connected through an Edge signal to AT&T in Washington while riding the subway. A third user could be on a VodaFone 3G network in the UK walking on the street. Assuming our profiles are looking for the same thing, we will see each other and be able to do free unlimited text messaging and send up to ten pictures to each other. The other neat thing is you can still send me texts and image files even if I go offline. When I come back into WhosHere, the texts and images will be delivered to my iPhone.

WhosHere is now ready for free download at the iTunes App Store.

why did you text me about this?
I am subscribed by email only.
I do not have a plan so I am charged for each text.
Please do not send text messages to me as they are unwelcome SPAM !
    Thank you
