The latest press release from Apple has outlined a few details about what we’ll be seeing at this years World Wide Developers Conference. The event will begin with the usual keynote from Apple, with Phil Schiller on stage at the normal time of 10 a.m. PDT on June 8. He will give a preview of the latest developments on Mac OS X Snow Leopard. The final version for developers will be unveiled, too, which leads us to believe its official release isn’t too far around the corner.
We’ll also see the public release of iPhone OS 3.0, and there will be a lot of information for developers concerning the 1,000 new APIs available. I’ve personally been excited about OS 3.0 since it’s first mentionit will likely be the most useful update to my iPhone so far.
Even though iPhone OS 3.0 will appear, there are two more things we’d like to see. I am referring to the next generation iPhone, and, of course, Steve Jobs. Jobs has been on medical leave since January, with his return scheduled for next month. I very much doubt he didn’t want to appear at the keynote, to be leading from the front again, so questions appear as to why Phil Schiller is standing in. Is Jobs still not feeling his best? Does he still need more time away from Apple? I feel that if he spends even more time away, people will begin to move forward without him. Yes, he’ll play a big part in decisions at Apple for as long as he can, but they won’t keep him on medical leave for ever.
Or, maybe Steve Jobs is feeling alright, and is prepared for his return. Maybe there’s something planned around the event. Nothing cheesy though, that’s certainly not Apple’s nature. No sneaking on to the stage, or randomly appearing around the event. I think we’ll see Steve Jobs on stage at some point during the keynote.
Where would be the ideal section for his return then? I’d place my bet near the end. Have a listen to this:
Phil Schiller, with the help of some Apple executives, has gone through Snow Leopard, iPhone OS 3.0 and explained what’s coming next as regards to the event. But then, more often than not, there’s a final section to the keynote; a part more famously known as “One More Thing…” How great would it be for Phil to introduce none other than Steve Jobs to present the next generation of iPhone, to go along with the new and improved Jobs leading from the front again? That would be brilliant, and would re-assure many.
Maybe I’m completely wrong; we don’t know. Either way, if you weren’t able to get your ticket for this years WWDC, make sure you’re back here for the live blog and in-depth coverage of the keynote announcements and more.
