Rumor has it that new MacBooks are expected to be unveiled at an October 14th Apple event (yes, that’s an Apple Tuesday). Seth Weintraub of Computerworld noted that a re-design of the MacBook Pro is needed, and he took some educated guesses as to what the next-gen MacBook Pros may look like:

• Single-piece aluminium, tapered edges
• Much thinner (and possibly lighter) form factor
• 16:9 LED backlit display instead of today’s 16:10
• HDMI output
• Solid-state Disk Drive option
• Centrino 2 chipset with 1066 MHz FSB

Weintraub says he’s not sure about Blu-ray, virtual keyboard and an HD camera, but these are all possibilities. The above list looks pretty accurate as to what a high-end consumer laptop is on the PC market today. 16:9 displays are slowly becoming a trend because they are far better suited for watching movies, but you do lose a bit of vertical screen space. HDMI outputs are becoming increasingly common, too. Following on from the MacBook Air, a Solid-State Drive could potentially be in the MacBook Pro—for those who want speed over capacity. Centrino 2 is Intel’s newest and fastest mobile chipset, which replaces the ageing Core 2 chips in current MacBook Pros.
