We all want an Apple netbook, but who really needs it?

I’m not sure when all this fuss over an Apple netbook started…likely the moment the first PC netbook hit the market. I do this myself…see something cool or new in the PC aisle and start wondering when Apple will jump on that technology. As Jake Gaecke pointed out in his article on Apple’s quarterly conference call:
If you recall the history of Apple products, you might notice a pattern. The Mac wasn’t the first computer, the iPod wasn’t the first mp3 player, and the iPhone certainly wasn’t the first cell phone. But what all of these products have in common is that they were all in response to what was wrong with products already available.
Jake’s right, and we can follow his logic to conclude that an Apple Netbook is likely. It’s more a matter of “when” than “if,” and Houston Neal at Software Advice has made a case of why such a device would be important not for consumers, but specifically for the medical profession.
He breaks his argument down to three reasons why an Apple Netbook would be widely adopted by by physicians; it would:
- contain “The Ultimate EMR User Interface,”
- become “The Ultimate EMR Mobile Device,”
- and have tremendous market potential, as “... Apple could become a leader in healthcare, just as they have in other verticals (publishing, digital media, education).”
Houston explains:
There is a seemingly endless amount of medical applications that could be developed for a Mac Tablet. However, we think it would be the ultimate interface for electronic medical records (EMRs). Ease-of-use has been a primary barrier to EMR adoption, so Apple – known for intuitive design and usability - would be welcomed by physicians.
Does the medical industry need an Apple netbook? That’ll likely depend upon whom you ask. But to read more about Houston’s case for it, head on over to SoftwareAdvice.com.

Maybe i’m the only person in the world who don’t want a netbook
on April 25, 2009 at 07:21 AM - LINKWe need thousands for our University as far as it is light (300 to 400 g or less), pocketable and has VGA video-out and the full Mac OS X inside (not just the limited OS X of iPhone and iPod touch). NOT to work on it, but for presentations from NATIVE Keynote and PowerPoint presentations. Because even the MacBook Air is too large and heavy for us. Can Apple deliver?
