Updates released by Apple

by Zach Flauaus on Aug 1, 2007 at 01:24 AM

software-updateApple and their developers have been quite busy lately and all their work, well some of it at least, has come out for the public. They released Security Update 2007-007, Safari Beta 3.0.3 for both OS X and Windows, iPhone firmware 1.01, and Airport Extreme Update 2007-004.

Security Update 2007-007 is available and recommended for all 10.3.9 and 10.4.10 PPC and Intel users. The list of issues addressed include bzip2, CFNetwork, Core Audio, cscope, gnuzip, Kerberos, mDNSResponder, PDFKit, PHP, Quartz Composer, samba, WebKit, and WebCore. The complete list of fixes can be found here with detailed explanations of what it’s available for, the impact of the batch, and a brief description.

Safari Beta 3.0.3 is also available and recommended for users on either platform. The update fixes a flaw in Safari itself where it can load “unexpected ... code executions” and three flaws in WebKit, Safari’s rendering engine, for various other reasons. You can find more information here.

iPhone firmware 1.0.1 was also released, and is once again recommended for iPhone users. The log, as well as reports from other sites, say that fixes are only in Safari, which help keep Safari more stable than previously. There are no added features, although there are rumors that a new update could be heading soon with added features such as MMS.

There is also a smaller update for Intel-based MacBook, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini users that help fix an issue when using Airport Extreme in 10.4.10. We posted about this before and had a lot of feedback from you guys experiencing the same problem, so please let us know if it fixes the problems you’re having.

All these updates are available through either Apple Software Update, Apple’s website, or iTunes for the iPhone update.
