Travelocity comes to iPhone, iPod touch

by Stephen Chinnadorai on Jan 23, 2008 at 02:45 PM

Travelocity LogoDon’t let the upcoming SDK stop the production of iPhone Web apps - large companies are creating them all the time. Travelocity on Tuesday announced the launch of a new Web application optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch. Travelocity is travel agency for consumers that’s based on the Web. You can book flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises and entire vacation packages through the web via Travelocity. This iPhone/iPod Touch web application allows you do do all of the travel booking functions you can on their normal website, in iPhone style, and faster. It also packs some cool web app-exclusive features such as directions via Google Maps and a simplified interface.

The amount of people creating iPhone Web apps is phenomenal. So many people have iPhones - and all of them can use these web-based applications - for free. It really is a revolution in communicating and using the internet from a mobile device. I think web apps will continue to be released - even after the SDK is released, because the SDK is going to be mainly aimed at developers wanting to create full apps for the iPhone, and possibly sell them. While web apps will be extensions from other companies wanting to get on the iPhone platform.
