Kid Rock gives iTunes the cold shoulder

by Josh Holat on Jun 18, 2008 at 08:12 PM

Kid RockIt appears as if Kid Rock won’t be putting his singles or albums up for download on iTunes just yet. The reason for this is that he believes Apple doesn’t pay musicians enough money for putting their music on iTunes. According to him, “iTunes takes the money, the record company takes the money, and they don’t give it to the artists.” However, he does add that he will eventually have to put his music on iTunes because he “can’t avoid it,” he just likes to “stick to [his] guns and prove a point and do something original.”

This has been an ongoing debate for quite some time now. The musicians create all the content, but feel they lose all the profit to big record companies and illegal downloading. Kid Rock is one artist who is sick of this and wants to make it clear. I applaud him for his efforts in trying to get more profit for the content he created, but I also know it probably won’t work. These types of situations aren’t always black and white, and there are a lot of companies and money involved.

Yeah, I remember Kid Rock…and when a stance by him would’ve meant something.

It’s basically true that artists get next to nothing from an iTunes sale, but the same can be said of regular CD sales. If Kid Rock was truly interested in making a stance, he’d drop his major label, go Indie, and sell his CDs himself on his website. But, he won’t do that, because Indie labels won’t get him on shows and in the magazines.

I guess I’m not understanding his logic how is he making a stance if he is eventually going to allow his music to be sold on iTunes? I haven’t listened to Kid Rock in years had no idea he was still on the scene.
