The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time updated for OS X; MacGamer preview

The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time
Our friends over at MacGamer have previewed the now defunct Presto’s upcoming enhanced DVD of Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time for Mac OS X. Presto, founded in 1991, originally brought Journeyman Project 3 to the Mac in 1998. The game has now been enhanced by programmer Tommy Yune to be played in Mac OS X off DVD with a higher data rate and storage capabilities for a smoother flow of gameplay. In other words, you won’t get stuck in what we older Mac gamers like to call “disk swapping hell.”

And guess what? Atlantis! Yea! What adventure game would be complete with at least portion of it taking place in Atlantis!

The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time

From the preview:

The mix of live actors with puppet-like aliens and computer-generated surroundings gives the game a definite “retro” look, but this is a retro game. Additionally, it lends an aura of surrealism that I found attractive.

However, there is a problem with the video when live actors interact with the computer-generated scenery. The scenes tended to pixilate. This problem may be linked to 7.6 version of QuickTime and Apple has been notified of the problem.

A QuickTime problem in a game originally released in 1998? Yeah, imagine that. Also…

One of the really nice features of the game is 360-degree viewing ability, similar to Myst. One problem is that it is much too easy to accidentally move while looking around. Holding down the CTRL key prevents movement, and I strongly recommend it when looking around.

And there you have it; the inevitable Myst comparison. The more things change, the more things stay the same.
