Steve Jobs takes a health leave

On top of recent news about our favorite CEO, Steve Jobs, not appearing during the keynote at Macworld due to a health issue, there is now even more for us Apple fanboys to theorize about. CNBC is reporting that Steve is taking an official leave from Apple so that he can focus on his health until the end of June. Steve Jobs has left Tim Cook in charge of the day to day operations at Apple and says he will still be around for major decisions.
The entire email form Apple PR:
Team,
I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.
In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.
I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple’s day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan.
I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.
So there you have it, Steve Jobs’ official leave. What does this mean for Apple? Will Steve Jobs be able to make it through this complex health issue of his and still remain so important at Apple? I think this is just one of the few signs we have gotten recently about the diminishing role of Steve Jobs at Apple. With the company becoming evermore pertinent in the tech world, it may be hard for Apple to lose such a key player. However, I think they have made plenty of preparations for the day comes that he retires. What are your thoughts?

As a new mac convert, I have to say I didn’t buy my macbook pro for steve jobs…I bought it because Apple best suits my needs with a far more capable, stable, and secure operating system (as well as great hardware). I don’t see this changing with Job’s declining roles. Realistically, he has likely been out of much of the actual product development for years, and really only “fine tuning” the products at the end. If he does step down permanently, I will miss him, however. With Gates already retired it will be the end of an era in tech.
