Bloomberg made a rather colossal slip-up today by accidentally releasing Steve Jobs’ obituary to the press. And no, his Steveness hasn’t died.
Most prominent figures have obituaries drawn up and ready to go, so that there can be a media frenzy the second they pass. Bloomberg editors were spicing it up a bit today, apparently bringing it up to date, when someone hit the wrong button and published it. Though investors were undoubtedly jolted a bit, stocks didn’t tumble, as with a few lines of reading it’s obvious it’s incomplete:
“Steve Jobs, who helped make personal computers as easy to use as telephones [...] has XXXX. Jobs XXXX, TK said XXXX.“
Bloomberg has retracted the obituary.
As Gawker points out, it’s a bit macabre, but also slightly entertaining to read the notes for editors and reporters.
