Starbucks no longer loves iTunes?

by Josh Holat on Jun 25, 2008 at 06:05 PM

StarbucksIf you want to get any of your music from Starbucks, then you’re going to have to do it by September. By then, Starbucks will have nearly finished downgrading the music services in all of its stores. This means that all those big spinning racks full of CDs, as well as other promotions such as Apple’s Starbucks iTunes deal, will be gone. After September, there will only be four CD slots available per store, but thankfully Starbucks’s free Wi-Fi for mobile iTunes Store users will most likely still be up and running.

This sudden stop of music sales was expected, as a New York Times article pointed out that each store was only selling an average of two CDs per day. However, even though Starbucks has had limited success in the “music store” business, this is still sort of a disappointment. Alley Insider points out that the music industry, which is already in trouble, was looking to the popular coffee shop to help improve physical media sales. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like there is much we can do here.
