Source claims next gen iPhone has video capabilities

It’s one of the only things that wasn’t on the long list of new and improved features of iPhone OS 3.0 during Apple’s special preview event: video. But it’s an obvious step forward that consumers are asking for. Other phones can do it, so it’s time for Apple to play catch-up and do mobile video correctly. At least one very reliable source claims Apple recognizes this fact, and will address it in the next iPhone.
The information comes from a source that AppleInsider claims has a reliable history. Sadly, this source doesn’t seem to hint at any front facing cameras, like the kind you’d use for mobile iChat video conferencing. But, we’ll take what we can get. To further support this idea, Engadget posted an image suggesting Apple is at least thinking about video features with iPhone OS 3.0.
AppleInsider’s article goes on to detail that in the US, AT&T’s network can handle uploading video from an iPhone, which I find hard to believe. iPhone OS 3.0 also supports MMS, so you could both e-mail or MMS a video to all of your friends. The network is ready and waiting for Apple, just like all of us.
One last thought is that Apple might consider this a premium feature and actually use it to differentiate two or more future iPhone models. Meaning Apple might release two new iPhones (or iPhone like devices), at least one of which wouldn’t have this new video capability. This is further backed up by what we heard recently about the model references in the beta OS.
I’d really love to see this come true. But I also want to see the next gen iPhone come with two cameras; one pointing in either direction (forwards and back). And while I’m dreaming, let’s make it HD as well (720p can’t be that hard, the iPhone needs a better camera anyway). This could once again make the iPhone a truly revolutionary device. Imagine being able to see your friends and family in the palm of your hand anytime and anywhere you have reception. I love the idea. Plus, you could take quick videos and post them on the web, or e-mail them, or MMS. The possibilities are endless, and they could even steal sales from devices like the Flip Mino.
Would you use mobile video on the iPhone? If so, how? Would you want to use it live, as a replacement for a Flip Mino, both?

sounds great and exciting…but I don’t like the the idea of there being an iphone and an iphone pro…just for the video…there would have to be a great number of differences in the iphone pro to make it worth it…
and I’m not talking about just storage size and a video app
I would understand apple making a Nano version of the iphone to get everyone on the planet using an apple phone…because there are many people that just don’t need or want all of the functions that the iphone has…and I want to see a tablet mac…sorta like the sony thing that is about the size of a paper back book…maybe a little bigger…
I don’t see the sense in a Pro iphone that will just make everyone crazy about the differences and the of course apples dreaded PRO PREMIUM PRICE…which is attached to every Pro apple product
my 2 cents

Sometimes I even wonder if it’s really necessary to have different levels of storage. Apple is the type of company that would restrict that too.
Ever once and a while I find myself reading a long article, or a PDF, and I long to have a device larger than the iPhone to read lying down. At the same time, I want it to be more functional than an iPhone. It has to have ports, and real OSX apps, not iPhone apps.
