Sirius and XM together on the iPhone

by Jake Gaecke on Aug 14, 2008 at 05:41 AM

StarPlayr for iPhoneIt seems there is an app in the works that will allow iPhone (and iPod Touch) users to access their Sirius and XM radio accounts. Orbitcast is reporting they have a “covert operative” on the app’s alpha team.

Just a disclaimer on this rumor: Since it’s supposedly in alpha, any number of things about the app could change between now and its release, so take this information with a grain of salt. Now, on to the juice…

StarPlayr for iPhone loginThe app is being made by GeeksToolBox with partner NiceMac. The app is confirmed to be under development by NiceMac’s site for their OSX application for streaming Sirius radio, StarPlayr.

Native iPhone Player: An iPhone version of StarPlayr is in the works and it will indeed be called StarPlayr, powered by StreamSmart.

StarPlayr for iPhone stationsStarPlayr for iPhone reportedly will be able to stream both Sirius and XM radio, with artist and song info, cover art, and lyrics. The “covert operative” says the audio, which is apparently unlike other iPhone radio apps, doesn’t need to be converted since it’s in a native format for the device. This improves battery life over other similar apps, and reportedly produces great sound quality.

The best part about the app? You don’t have to jailbreak your iPhone. It should be making its way to the App Store, but we’ll just have to wait and see when.
