Shazam database reaches 8 million songs

by Josh Holat on Dec 5, 2008 at 08:31 PM

Shazam Reaches 8 Million SongsDue to new partnerships and exciting new material, Shazam has announced it has increased its music database from 6 million to 8 million items. With this number, Shazam now can search the widest range of music to allow its users to discover pre-release and specialist music. And with 20 million customers searching more than 100 million tracks (numbers as of September 2008), this addition of songs will be very welcome. Put simply, Shazam’s usefulness has quickly made it one of the most downloaded apps on Apple’s App Store (I’m sure the iPhone ads helped, also).

Will Mills, the head of Shazam, said, “This increase in our database cements Shazam’s position as the leading mobile music discovery service in the world. With our strong music alliances we gain access to the most relevant music well before many other music services, which ensures users can discover popular and niche music all over the globe. No matter where they are, or what they’re listening to, users are taken on an unforgettable musical journey. This unequalled user experience and superior technology has made Shazam the perfect partner for mobile phone operators and handset manufacturers across the world.”

I currently have this awesome application installed on my iPhone, and I can safely say it works better than expected. It has been able to find almost any song I have thrown at it with pretty great accuracy. And the ability to see where to purchase the song from within the application itself is genius. I hope to see more success from this company in the future!
