Analysts pessimistic about upcoming Apple event

With the Apple Event scheduled for September 9th, there has been much hype surrounding the event. It is all but confirmed that there will be redesigned iPod nanos, possibly some new iPod touches, maybe a Mac or two, and perhaps a new version of iTunes. Now all this is fine and dandy, but there are some who don’t share my and many other’s optimism about the event. AAPL has continued to fall, despite the great possibility that something(s?) wonderful will be announced at the upcoming event.

Usually, anticipation of events like this would drive up the stock prices, but analysts from Barron’s seem to think that the drop may go a bit further when the actual announcements are made as they think the event will be nothing near what is being talked about. Those same analysts say that although there will be new nanos and touches at the event, everything else will be saved for a later date. Even then, they aren’t very happy with the rumored (and confirmed?) iPod nano design, and I do have to say, neither am I. The rumored designs have a cheap look about them and seem to be a step back. I really like the current design, and I think Apple should continue work with that one and not harm the nano’s image.

American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu has similar feelings about the events, saying that nothing more than redesigned nanos and touches, and maybe a price drop, will be announced. Similar remarks came from Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi, who says that Apple will hold off with new Macs until the holiday season rolls around.

Personally, I would like to see some new Apple goodies, but I think that saving the Macs for a holiday season release would be a better game plan for Apple. And I think that it currently goes without saying that there will be a redesigned nano and possibly a touch at the event.
