Microsoft is at it again with another one of their new series of ads attacking Macs for their price, as well as other things. In their first ad with Lauren, she wandered into the “Mac Store” but didn’t end up buying anything because there was no computer for under $1,000. She then made her way to Best Buy where she happily purchased a PC. I can see where Microsoft was coming from with that ad, as I will admit that Macs are pricey. However, I will also say that it’s worth the extra cost. On the other hand, I have some issues with their new ad.
In this ad Giampaolo says, “Macs to me are more about aesthetics than they are about the computing power. I don’t wanna pay for the brand, I wanna pay for the computer.” If you ask me, this statement is pretty absurd. I agree with him in that Macs are very aesthetically pleasing, but not in the fact that they aren’t about computing power. Most Macs these days not only have top of the line graphics cards and processors, they also have software that takes great advantage of them. I doubt you could find an in-stock computer at Best Buy that is any more powerful than a Macbook or Mac Pro. Yes, they are expensive, but that’s because you get so much.

If they want to rehash inaccurate arguments from the mid-90s, they should go with how there’s no software available for the Mac, and that Apple wouldn’t even be in business if Microsoft hadn’t bought them out.
on April 6, 2009 at 05:44 PM - LINKPricey? You get things like iLife that would cost you 500 dollars to put on a PC. I think Mac’s are quite the bargain. They don’t crash or get as many virus, which also saves money on anit-virus and malware software. If you look at the big picture, I think you would be surprised as to total cost of ownership…....
on April 6, 2009 at 07:56 PM - LINKJust a side note, I’m not sure I’d go so far as to say that Macs have top-of-the-line graphics processing. Hell, most technology present in the machines is pretty standard stuff, mid-range even.
And with as slow a filesystem and kernel as you can get, you need that extra dose of horsepower if your going to get anything done.
