A few days ago I posted about the “World’s Second Unlocked iPhone” which was being sold on eBay. The bids eventually escalated to about 1 billion dollars, though they were most likely fraudulent. eBay ended the auction early, and no winners were chosen. So you must be wondering what happened to this piece of Apple history?
George Hotz (geohot), the iPhone’s un-locker, didn’t sell the iPhone for money, but traded it. Terry Daidone, the founder of Certicell contacted George and offered to trade a Nissan 350Z and three 8GB iPhones for his unlocked one. There are others who have claimed to have unlocked the iPhone like iPhoneSimFree, but it looks like it is only George so far who has made any profit off of an unlocked iPhone.
I think that a $30,000 car and three new iPhones is a great deal to take. It’s times like this I wish the iPhone was in Canada (and that I actually had cell phone hacking skills).
