If you’re a reader of Appletell, you’re likely to be fairly tech-savvy. You actively check out the latest technology news, especially the Apple-related headlines. So, you probably already know the iPhone has changed the way many of us live. With over 100,000 applications available that do, well, pretty much anything, finding a place to eat or chatting to your friends has likely changed since the release of the iPhone.
Out of the 100,000 apps available however, there’s maybe only a couple of thousand that are top-class apps. For the developers of those applications, the iPhone has been more successful than they could’ve wished for. With the right idea and perfect execution, it’s quite possible to make a living from iPhone app developmenta job that just three years ago was nonexistent.
So we’re aware of the quantity of applications and the success the App Store has been for developers and Apple, but we don’t know much from behind the sceneshow these apps came to being on our handsets, and just what the true size of iPhone app development has become. Enter Planet of the Apps: A Handheld Revolutiona one-hour documentary that aims to show just how these thousands of applications have changed lives, while showing insights into the many developers behind the apps, too. While the majority of the documentary will focus on the Apple iPhone App Store, CNBC’s Scott Wapner will also take a look at Apple’s biggest competitors, namely a Verizon and Google Android deal.
According to their studies, the Apple iPhone App Store generates around $200 million a month in sales. If you want to find out just how that’s possible, tune in on Thursday, January 7th at 10PM ET/PT. If you miss it, they’re going to re-air it on Sunday, January 10th at 11PM ET.
