Nvidia keeps the Mac Mini rumors alive with new motherboard
Nvidia has unveiled a desktop version of the motherboard design that was included with Apple’s latest notebook refresh. It’s called the GeForce 9-series, and will be making its way to manufacturers like Foxconn and Asus this month.
The new board design features a motherboard-based GPU, or mGPU. This allows the board to process graphics and other tasks much faster. Other features include 16 core graphics processing, PureVideo HD technology that uses the GPU instead of the CPU for video processing, dual-link DVI, HDMI and Nvidia Hybrid SLI technology.
Nvidia Hybrid SLI technology allows for more than one GPU to run at once. This is similar to the MacBook Pro, though you could use both GPUs at the same time, instead of just switching between them.
And just to add to the possible Mac mini future of this board, it is very small.
I think it’s about time that the Mac mini sees an upgrade. It still doesn’t have 802.11n, still uses Intel integrated graphics, and just all together feels old. Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of the Mac mini. It’s the perfect Mac for a TV, and I’d be one of the first in line to buy a new model. So how about it Apple, continue with the refreshes for us?

Apple discontinued shipments of the old MacBook family 3-4 weeks before the latest models came out. Now we get word shipments of the Mini are being discontinued. Add to that, Intel has stopped making the parts Apple needs for the current Mini. I think, in 3-4 weeks (Nov 14th to be precise) we should have some very exciting news.
