Nine year old child from Singapore developing iPhone apps

by Josh Holat on Feb 7, 2009 at 09:34 AM

iPhoneWith all of the frameworks and APIs Apple has made available for developing for the iPhone, most developers were easily able to catch on and quickly develop highly successful apps in a short amount of time. However, it seems as if Apple has made it so easy that even a nine year old can develop for the iPhone. Now if that’s not a great PR story, I don’t know what is. If you’ve seen or even downloaded the Doodle Kids application from the App Store, then you should know that it was developed by Lim Ding Wen from Singapore. With over 4,000 downloads at the time this story broke, I’m sure it’s up a lot higher now.

Apparently, this child’s dad works at a local technology firm where he is the chief officer. Lim Ding Wen developed this application so that his two younger sisters could draw on their iPhones under the guidance of his dad. He and his dad, who also has an application, even check every day to see who has more downloads and have made a sort of competition out of it. If that doesn’t make for some great bonding time, then I don’t know what a true geek is. Congratulations, kid.

  • Thanks for the kind words for Ding Wen. Yes, he has won the competition, I lost. Doodle Kids has been downloaded 20,000 times already, up from 4,000.
