NewsFire goes free

by Stephen Chinnadorai on Mar 1, 2008 at 07:44 PM

NewsFireEarlier this year, I posted that NetNewsWire had gone free - now I can say the same about its biggest competitor, Newsfire. NewsFire has been one of the most popular offline RSS readers for the Mac; created by David Watanabe, the developer who brought us Xtorrent and Acquisition.

“After much internal debate, I’ve made the decision that as of today, NewsFire is totally free. No feature restrictions, no ads, no cut-down ‘lite’ version… this is the real deal.”

NewsFire is definitely worth checking out if you’re currently using another web-based alternative like Google Reader - it’s got a beautiful interface, and runs quickly too. Now that there are two free RSS readers for Mac, I’m stuck deciding between them. Unfortunately, users who purchased previous versions of NewsFire will, in most cases, not get their money back.
