New Mac Pros: Tip of the Iceberg

Well, though Apple pulled a fast one and released them early, Appletell’s predictions were spot on in the case of the new Mac Pros.

Our Prediction:

Penryn processors up to 8-core 3.2 GHz[...] Apple will most likely tout a 32 GB RAM ability as a new feature, even though the current Mac Pros can handle 32 GB of RAM since the introduction of 4 GB RAM Modules. Hard Drive Space will most likely be expanded to a 4 TB Max.

The new Mac Pros sport 8 core standard across the line, starting at 2.8 GHz and going up to 3.2 GHz. 32 GB of RAM has as expected been touted, but keep in mind this is NOT a new feature at all. 4 TB of internal storage is the new max as well.

But enough with the back-patting. Why on earth didn’t Apple wait until MacWorld for this? Gizmodo asked Apple that very thing. The response? “We’re very excited about these new products and we think our customers will be too, so we wanted to kick off 2008 by getting them into our customers’ hands as soon as possible. They’re both available starting today.”

Gizmodo takes this to mean one thing, and I completely agree. MacWorld is going to be freakin’ awesome. I am now confident of a sub-notebook, and my hopes for a multi-touch Mac have been gotten up. If Apple feels it needs to get a long-awaited Mac Pro update that surely would have garnered a big round of applause of of the way before MacWorld, I can’t wait to see what lies within.
