New iTunes Ad, promotes Coldplay

by Mark Rowland on May 22, 2008 at 11:29 AM

quite mesmerizing

Last night, during the weekly broadcast of American Idol, Apple premiered another iTunes ad.  This new one features a new song by Coldplay, paired with some of the most amazing animation I have ever seen.  Interestingly, the video does not maintain the silhouette figures of iTunes ad past, but rather shows the members of Coldplay performing the song.  The video is full of color and light, and it reminds me a lot of the classic Leopard Aurora desktop picture.  Viva la Vida, the title track of Coldplay’s new album, is paired perfectly with the effects.  Aside from promoting iTunes, the ad serves to promote an exclusive iTunes pre-order of the album.  Although the album won’t be release until June 17th, the song presented in the video is available as a single on iTunes.  It is definitely worth the 30 seconds it will take to head over to the iTunes section of Apple’s website and give it a gander.

The iTunes ad featuring the Ting Ting’s “Shut Up and Let Me Go” was at the top of the list for favorite iTunes ads, but the wonderfully mesmerizing animation and great song featured in the new ad have topped that.  Keep it up, Apple.

Or rather: “Keep it up, advertising firm.”  Apple makes computers, advertising firms make ads.  Give credit where credit is due…

Yeah, good point.  But apple must have some say somewhere in the production process.  Maybe they chose the song.
