Looks like those rumors that have been flying around these last few weeks have been true, with the announcement of the new “fat” nano’s during today’s stevenote. The new nano line does not only contain a new body, but many other features.
First, the new nano includes a larger screen. The screen has moved up from a tiny postage stamp sized screen to a large 2.0” display, only 0.5” smaller than the iPod video screen. But the best part is, there is no loss in display quality with the small 2.0” screen pumping out an iPod-video resolution of 320x240 pixels.
The new nano line also includes a color refresh, with a new set of colors similar to that of the new iPod Shuffles. The new iPod nanos come in silver, light-blue (baby blue), Red, light-green (teal), light-blue (cyan) and my personal favorite, black.
You’d figure Apple would be done at this point, but they’ve gone and done as much as they possibly could yet again. The new nano has one of the most sought-after features in any iPod, CoverFlow. That’s right, you’re no longer bound to the list view with the new ability to search through your music using your album artwork.
The new nano is (according to Steve) currently on planes over here, and should be in stores very soon. The new nanos come in 4GB and 8GB versions, starting at just $149 for the 4GB version and $199 for the 8GB version.
I was sort of partial to the new design, but after watching the stevenote and seeing the device was still actually very “nano,” I could definitely see myself using one in the near future.
