NBC repairing relations with Apple?

by Adam Fisher-Cox on Jan 21, 2008 at 06:52 PM

NBCIt appears that NBC CEO Jeff Zucker wants to patch things up with Apple in a move to abolish an era of television that “won’t return.”

The writers strike has already caused massive job loss and an influx of reality shows, but in an interview with the Financial Times, Zucker said he wants to go further “by cutting back enduring features of the television business, including the pilot season, in which networks develop programmes, and the splashy “upfront” presentations in which they tout them to advertisers.”

Zucker also seems to want to wrk with Apple again. “We’ve said all along that we admire Apple, that we want to be in business with Apple,” he said to FT. “We’re great fans of Steve Jobs.” Well, regarding that first quote, “We know that Apple has destroyed the music business—in terms of pricing—and if we don’t take control, they’ll do the same thing on the video side,” a quote from Zucker after the content pull, doesn’t sound much like love for Apple, but hey.

Interestingly, Steve Jobs said similar things to NBC to BusinessWeek. “We’ll put it back together on the TV thing,” Jobs said. “Everybody lost [when NBC pulled content from iTunes]. “But NBC is a great company.”
