My First Mac is an independent initiative supported by bright ideas, a lot of well-organized material, talented writers and a great web design. It’s aimed to help (new and prospective) Mac users to master their computers, and to drive knowledge of experienced users to beginners, managing somehow to create an interactive community useful to any Mac user.

The site presents several interesting sections, such as Before You Buy, Getting Started, Getting Help, Switching from Windows, Mastering the Mac, News, MFM Forums, MFM Q&A and How Do I…? Together, they help organize most of the content on the web page in easy into find categories, combined with a powerful search engine for specific findings.

One thing to notice is the structure of the site pages. No matter if you’re reading an informative general page or an article, as they state, you’ll find they’ve structured most pages for varying levels of interest. There is the Quick Scan section, which gives you a short overview of the key points. Then, you’ll find an in-depth article followed by the Dig Deeper section where you can discover links to more information about the topic on other websites. Below the Quick Scan area you will also find articles on My First Mac related to the central article.

The MFM crew gives a very important position to the reader and general contributor. As I approached the site for the first time, one key feature that caught my attention was the Tell Us Your Mac Story section, which I found to be very interesting, intended for us to tell them about how we use our Macs. You send your story and a picture, they’ll help you shape it up a little bit (if necessary), and then they’ll publish it for everyone.

Finally, one of the things you can’t ignore when you visit this site is the professional graphic design. Everything is represented by original, clean and carefully outlined images. This project could be done as a blog, which is often an option taken by many authors to decrease the level of complexity at the moment of designing and maintaining the site, but instead, MFM creators committed to their readers with customized and complete web site, created from the ground up to deliver a greater level of quality, flexibility and the possibility to grow and satisfy future demands.

My First Mac is, in my opinion, a really good web site, devoted to the new Mac users, which start to discover Apple products, and is full of emotions, doubts and questions. It’s also a platform for more experienced users to share their knowledge and write some interesting articles. It’s definitely a must visit for any Mac enthusiast out there.
