More evidence for new iMacs and Mac Minis with NVIDIA chipsets
The evidence can be found deep inside some configuration files on new MacBooks. The current model number for the iMac is 8.1 while the Mac Mini is 2.1, so these incremented numbers likely represent unreleased models. The reference to a CFG_MCP79 is assumed to be the NVIDIA MCP79 for obvious reasons.
If you have a new MacBook or MacBook Pro you can verify this finding by examining the following file: System -> Library -> IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext -> Contents -> PlugIns -> ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext -> Contents -> Info.plist
Both of these findings are pretty much in line for what’s expected of the new models of both machines. There are still some whispers of the Mac Mini’s demise, but I think they’ve been greatly exaggerated. Perhaps we will have more news on both of these rumored computers come Macworld.
