Microsoft Software Test Engineer and blogger Hilton Locke said this week that the Windows Vista successor, Windows 7 (codenamed “Vienna”) will include new multi-touch features.
“I will say that if you are impressed by the ‘touch features’ in the iPhone, you’ll be blown away by what’s coming in Windows 7,” said Hilton Locke, a test engineer on the Tablet PC effort. “Now if only we could convince more OEMs that Windows Touch Technology is going to drive their sales.”
Too bad they can’t… And too bad that while Apple has iPhone out now, and will most likely be doing much more with Multi-Touch, there is no chance of Windows 7 even hitting shelves before 2010. Whether or not Windows 7 will “blow away” Apple’s current iPhone product, there is no way Apple will still be selling the same iPhone in 2 years.
(And who wants to put money down for a delay of Windows 7?) If Microsoft is attempting to “blow away” competition by taking a 2 year old product one step further, it means that they will be even farther behind then if they would just think of something themselves.
