02:39 PMJake Gaecke said:
Apple Store’s back up.
02:38 PMJake Gaecke said:
Thanks Phil.
02:37 PMJake Gaecke said:
Phil’s thanking us again for coming and everyone who helped put this show on.
02:37 PMJake Gaecke said:
Seriously… what about the Mac Mini?
02:33 PMKirk Hiner said:
Somewhere, John Mayer is curled in the fetal position on his bathroom floor, feeling really neglected.
02:32 PMKirk Hiner said:
I think I’d rather have Tom Jones here, but whatever. I dig some Tony Bennett.
02:31 PMJake Gaecke said:
How about we listen to some music by Tony Bennett? Ok.
02:29 PMJake Gaecke said:
Now the iTunes Music store is supported on the iPhone with WiFi and 3G. Yet another reason to upgrade my 1st Gen iPhone. You can preview songs, buy music, and when you sync back to your computer, everything is updated. This starts today.
02:28 PMKirk Hiner said:
Easy to upgrade your music to DRM free with songs you’ve already purchased.
02:28 PMJake Gaecke said:
iTunes plus (DRM Free music) will now have 8 million songs. By the end of the quarter all songs on iTunes will be available as DRM Free.
02:27 PMJake Gaecke said:
iTunes will now have 3 prices for songs. $.69, $.99 $1.29 (more will be offered at the lower than the higher). Coming in April.
02:26 PMBill Stiteler said:
One last thing for the last keynote?
02:24 PMKirk Hiner said:
Last thing = iTunes updates.
02:24 PMKirk Hiner said:
Sticks with the “green” theme we’ve seen lately.
02:23 PMKirk Hiner said:
Here comes the commercial.
02:23 PMKirk Hiner said:
Ships in late January, early February.
02:22 PMKirk Hiner said:
Oh, nevermind. You can’t missed that while typing.
02:22 PMKirk Hiner said:
Take back and recycling program, too. But…can you remove it yourself?
02:22 PMJake Gaecke said:
So no removable battery, but it works for a long time. 7 or 8 hours based on which graphics you choose to use.
02:21 PMKirk Hiner said:
Which means fewer batteries in landfills.
02:20 PMKirk Hiner said:
Life span has been expanded up to five years.
02:19 PMKirk Hiner said:
3x the number of charges and 3x the amount of life than the industry standard.
02:18 PMKirk Hiner said:
Batteries are custom shaped to allow for maximum use of space. The rest, I don’t understand. I was an English major, dammit! I made fun of people who majored in this kind of stuff.
02:16 PMKirk Hiner said:
They’re playing a video now with the engineers talking about battery technology. I’m going to take a nap…oh, wait. It’ll last up to 8 hours, can be recharged up to 1,000 times, and is more economically friendly.
02:15 PMKirk Hiner said:
Battery news up next. Longest lasting battery life ever.

0.98 inches, world’s thinnest 17” notebook. World’s lightest, too.
02:12 PMJake Gaecke said:
A MacBook has been the #1 selling notebook each of the last 8 months.
02:11 PMKirk Hiner said:
17” MacBook Pro is Unibody, of course.
02:11 PMJake Gaecke said:
Hey what about the Mac Mini? Hello? Hey!
02:10 PMKirk Hiner said:
Here comes #3 - 17” MacBook Pro.
02:10 PMJake Gaecke said:
Beta launches today.
02:10 PMJake Gaecke said:
The beta is free to sign up, but eventually it will be a paid service.
02:08 PMJake Gaecke said:
A document is not directly editable online, you can only add comments etc. But you can download the document as an iWork or MS Office document to edit it on your machine. You can also export a PDF.
02:07 PMJake Gaecke said:
iWork.com works with most browsers, and operating systems. Safari, Firefox, well does anything work on IE? I guess this does.
02:05 PMJake Gaecke said:
BTW, Phil is doing a really good ‘job,’ but I still haven’t heard any booms.
02:05 PMJake Gaecke said:
Phil is apparently a rocket scientist in his free time.
02:04 PMJake Gaecke said:
iWork.com is coming in beta soon. What is it? A new service for sharing iWork documents. You upload them and then you can collaborate. Documents are viewable online so you don’t necessarily need iWork on your computer, you can add comments and notes to documents. Documents are downloadable as well.
02:03 PMKirk Hiner said:
iLife ‘09 needs Leopard to run. You can get iLofe ‘09, iWork ‘09 and Mac OS X leopard in one box for $169, no family pack announced. Available in late January.
02:02 PMJake Gaecke said:
$79 for one license, $99 for family pack, and $49 with a new mac….
02:00 PMJake Gaecke said:
More table features, easier formula editing now with over 250 functions. Functions have nice descriptions of what they do and there are tool tips to help you fully understand that function when using it.
01:59 PMJake Gaecke said:
Lastly for iWork ‘09 is Numbers. Next up the last announcement today, unless there’s ‘One more thing…”
01:58 PMKirk Hiner said:
40 new templates. Some of them are pretty dorky looking, but that’s a great number. Bound to be something in here for everyone.
01:57 PMJake Gaecke said:
Support for MathType, I know I’m excited, and EndNote too (bibliography help).
01:57 PMKirk Hiner said:
Dynamic outlines allows you organize your outline by drag and drop, and it’s reflected in the document itself automatically.
01:56 PMKirk Hiner said:
Although that tab view to find the pages you want is nice.
01:56 PMKirk Hiner said:
Of course, Mariner’s already been doing that for years, and better, but yeah, I’ll use it when I use Pages.
01:56 PMJake Gaecke said:
Pages… full screen view to keep distractions away from you so you can just focus on writing.
01:55 PMKirk Hiner said:
If a call comes in, does it become part of the presentation? Again, my wife wouldn’t really like that.
01:55 PMJake Gaecke said:
One extra feature… wireless control of your keynote presentations with an iPhone app. You see your slides, your notes and flick your finger to advance slides. It’s not free, but it’s only $.99
01:53 PMJake Gaecke said:
New text transitions, and chart animations that make your charts look cool. There are more themes too.
01:52 PMJake Gaecke said:
The transitions are pretty awesome, but it’s going to take a long time to get these kind of effects since each object has to be separate, the more the better. So take your time and add a ton of objects.
01:50 PMJake Gaecke said:
Keynote can now do custom moves of objects between slides.
01:49 PMJake Gaecke said:
Hey, here comes that 5th top download… iWork ‘09
01:49 PMKirk Hiner said:
Free on new Macs, $79 upgrade, $99 family pack. Ships later this month, early February.
01:49 PMJake Gaecke said:
They’re also updating iWeb and iDVD they just didn’t have the time to share more features today.
01:48 PMKirk Hiner said:
John Fogerty’s now teaching me to play Proud Mary. The video sits on top of the chord notation. Quite handy. So, where’s the iGuitar?
01:47 PMJake Gaecke said:
Now you can buy songs in at least 3 forms from Apple. The song, the music video and now the music lesson so you can play it yourself.
01:47 PMBill Stiteler said:
“In this lesson, you’ll learn how to pause before a lyric to make it look like you’re overcome with emotion, and allow the audience to applaud.”
01:46 PMKirk Hiner said:
$4.99 per song lesson.
01:46 PMJake Gaecke said:
It’s Patrick you fool (sorry editor :D )
01:45 PMKirk Hiner said:
John Fogerty, some guy from Fallout Boy, Sting, and more on guitar. Sarah McLachlan on keyboard, a guy I’ve never heard of, Norah Jones, and so more to come.
01:44 PMJake Gaecke said:
“Hold your applause because this is really cool” ~ Phil
01:44 PMKirk Hiner said:
Garage Band comes with 9 basic piano and guitar lessons. Also comes with lessons direct from the artists.
01:43 PMKirk Hiner said:
Well, aspiring musicians will still need someone to write out the tab for “Tom Sawyer” for them.
01:43 PMBill Stiteler said:
Now everyone can play like John Meyer!
01:43 PMJake Gaecke said:
Now Apple has it’s sights set on musical instructors. Apparently, we won’t be needing them anymore.
01:42 PMJake Gaecke said:
So far: iPhoto ‘09, iMovie ‘09 and now GarageBand ‘09 and we’re only going to talk about one of the cool new features and it’s called Learn To Play.
01:41 PMJake Gaecke said:
Phil’s back.
01:40 PMKirk Hiner said:
Title images and transitions are absolutely gorgeous. I may actually have to bother learning how to do this.
01:39 PMJake Gaecke said:
Maps animates your travels from one location to another to another to another… There are a number of different themes for a customized look.
01:38 PMJake Gaecke said:
There are new adjustments for slowmo or fast motion and some effects to enhance your videos
01:38 PMKirk Hiner said:
Aliens fear iMovie…to easy to determine that the UFOs are real with all this image stabilization and slow-mo.
01:36 PMKirk Hiner said:
Now all of us can try to figure out if bigfoot’s real and who really shot JFK.
01:36 PMJake Gaecke said:
Video stabilization works amazingly.
01:36 PMKirk Hiner said:
The Missing Manual folks are shooting of party streamers and dumping wine on each other right now, because people will be looking for help with all of this. Plenty of help.
01:34 PMJake Gaecke said:
I take that non-linear comment back (partially). With the precision editor, there are two layers for editing video. I still want more.
01:34 PMKirk Hiner said:
The interface is massive. I can’t imagine how small everything will look on my Macbook.
01:33 PMJake Gaecke said:
There are a lot of context sensitive pop-up menus that make editing some things easier, but you’ll definitely need to get used to it.
01:32 PMJake Gaecke said:
It’s still not the greatest for non-linear editing.
01:31 PMJake Gaecke said:
iMovie now has video stabilization too for all of us who drink too much coffee!
01:30 PMBill Stiteler said:
Apple to reintroduce actual editing features into editing software.
01:30 PMJake Gaecke said:
There’s a new travel feature that animates your travels.
01:30 PMJake Gaecke said:
New advanced drag and drop features. There are also themes that edit some things for you automatically.
01:29 PMKirk Hiner said:
iMovie ‘09, hopefully they’ve made it more like the old version so it, you know, usable again.
01:28 PMBill Stiteler said:
New version of iMovie. But is it a new, good version?
01:28 PMJake Gaecke said:
iMovie is getting updated
01:28 PMBill Stiteler said:
“These cameras and these computers, they’re just… like, like magic. How they do this stuff?”
01:27 PMKirk Hiner said:
I think Phil thinks he’s trying to explain this to his mom.
01:27 PMBill Stiteler said:
Half an hour on face tagging and location tagging. Somebody get the hook.
01:26 PMKirk Hiner said:
Geo tagging on places is really nice and intuitive, but you lose the functionality if you don’t have a camera with Geo chip, of course.
01:24 PMKirk Hiner said:
But where’s Face Genius, that automatically selects other faces you may like based on the face you’re currently looking at.
01:24 PMBill Stiteler said:
Yeah, okay, we get it. Face tagging. Move along, Phil.
01:21 PMBill Stiteler said:

iPhoto can automatically sync with your iPhone/iPod touch for easy sharing.
01:18 PMKirk Hiner said:
In the new slideshow feature, face detection automatically centers the faces in the frame. Wild, wild, wild new transitions.
01:17 PMJake Gaecke said:
Slideshow themes are being added
01:16 PMJake Gaecke said:
Facebook and Flickr functionality, now you don’t need plugins!
01:16 PMKirk Hiner said:
iPhoto will now support Facebook and Flickr. It’s compatible with Faces. People can assign a name to the Facebook photo and it’ll sync up to your iPhoto account!
01:15 PMJake Gaecke said:
Places uses Google Maps to organize your photos and show you where they came from.
01:14 PMJake Gaecke said:
You can update your old photos with locations too, so you don’t need to have an iPhone or GPS equipped camera
01:13 PMJake Gaecke said:
It figures out where you where when you took your geotagged picture, more than just long. and latt., it will find things like the Eiffel Tower etc.
01:13 PMKirk Hiner said:
Places allows you to find photos by location. Places appear on a map.
01:12 PMBill Stiteler said:
Anyone? Tom Jones: “From Russia With Love?” Anyone?
01:12 PMJake Gaecke said:
Places works with geo tagging, hello iPhone, thank you Apple!
01:12 PMBill Stiteler said:
I’ve seen faces, places, smiled for a moment…
01:12 PMJake Gaecke said:
Ways to organize your pictures, Events, Faces and now Places

This will cause a lot of problems for my family, I just know it.
01:11 PMJake Gaecke said:
It even has Face Recognition, it will suggest photos that it thinks are the same person… um, amazing!?
01:11 PMKirk Hiner said:
Face recognition? How am I going to feel when I search for my face and it pulls up my dog?
01:10 PMBill Stiteler said:
That’s… kind of horrifying, actually.
01:10 PMJake Gaecke said:
It works with Face Detection, it finds the face, and you type the name
01:10 PMKirk Hiner said:
Faces was one of my favorite songs by Night Ranger.
01:09 PMJake Gaecke said:
You can organize your photos by faces (people)
01:09 PMBill Stiteler said:
Think he’ll apologize for the last version of iMovie?
01:09 PMJake Gaecke said:
Events now gets Faces
01:08 PMJake Gaecke said:
What’s new in iLife ‘09? We’re starting with iPhoto
01:08 PMBill Stiteler said:
Phil notes that in terms of attendance, the Apple stores get “100 Macworlds” every week. Oh, SNAP, Phil!
01:07 PMJake Gaecke said:

Yes, Phil, what other company can have stores in other countries? Besides McDonalds, GAP, Subway…
01:06 PMKirk Hiner said:

01:05 PMBill Stiteler said:

Talking about opening Apple Stores all over the world.
01:04 PMKirk Hiner said:
He’s very gracious. The people love Phil!
01:04 PMKirk Hiner said:
Big ovation for poor old Phil.
01:03 PMKirk Hiner said:
Lights are down. Here we go. There’s Phil.
01:03 PMBill Stiteler said:
I like to imagine that Phil is doing that “slow walk to the stage” thing that Eddie Murphy used to do.
01:00 PMBill Stiteler said:
well, that will make the silent protest easier.
12:59 PMJake Gaecke said:
They just welcomed us and told us to silence everything.
12:57 PMKirk Hiner said:
DRM free iGum. Recommended by four out of dentists to download their gum illegally.

I’m still holding out hope that the iPhone will be opened to other carriers.
10:56 AMKirk Hiner said:
All of the below! Or none of the below. Or an assortment of the below. I guess we’ll find out soon enough. I’m still pulling for an updated eMate.
10:47 AMJake Gaecke said:
Mac Mini, iMac, Mighty Mouse, Mac Tablet, iMovie Cloud… what’s it going to be?
10:45 AMBill Stiteler said:
It’s 19 degrees in Minneapolis, so I’ll gladly take the 45 outside the Moscone.
10:40 AMKirk Hiner said:
I feel bad for everyone who had to wait in line all night for this. It’s still pretty cold.
