After the Airport Base Station Updates, Steve Jobs announced an update to the iPhone. It comes in the form of the leaked iPhone Firmware 1.1.3.
The new iPhone firmware brings maps with location, in the form of cell phone triangulation. Just as Andru at GearLive demoed, it finds a fairly accurate estimate of where you are, and can give you directions from there.
GearLive next demoed bookmarks from Safari on the home screen. Apple calls them Webclips, and they send you to the webpage in question, but remember where you have zoomed and panned to. So for instance, if you wanted to se your YouTube subscriptions’ latest videos, you could zoom in to that section of the page, save it as a bookmark, and then when you clicked the bookmark it would take you to that zoomed area. In this way, it functions much like webclips on Leopard’s dashboard.
Customizing the home screen is another feature GearLive had previously shown us. Pushing an icon allows you to drag items around the screen and on and off the dock.
The last feature shown was the ability to SMS multiple people. Pretty self-explanatory, it allows you to send SMS text messages to more than one recipient.
The software update will be available free of charge today to all iPhone users.
