Mach Dice, quite possibly the best way to roll fake dice

by Jake Gaecke on Aug 22, 2008 at 05:09 PM

Mac Dice n-side dice simulatorWhen I first saw MotionX Dice on theApp Store, I was really impressed with how well the app used the iPhone’s capabilities. But now, I’m thinking there’s a better app for rolling dice. It fixes nearly all of the problems I had with MotionX Dice, and does it in style.

Mach Dice rolling diceIt’s called Mach Dice, and it’s an n-sided dice simulator. You can choose how many dice you want to roll, up to 100. And of those dice, you can customize how many sides each one has. So you can roll eight 20 sided dice, along with a few four sided and a good old six sided for good measure. The rolling is motion controlled, and responds to the motion in which you shake your device.  The summation of the dice is conveniently displayed at the bottom of the screen.  Also, after you’re done shaking, you can tilt your iPhone or iPod Touch to see the dice change perspective accordingly. It’s like you’re actually looking at real dice inside of your screen.

I don’t think my description quite does this justice, so here’s a video to make that $.99 just slip out of your account.

The one thing I’d like to see improved is the way you add dice to the table. I’m thinking along the lines of the flick-to-choose dial controls that are found throughout the iPhone interface. Other than that, this looks amazing, and a steal at $.99. So, go and buy it, so you can shake, shake… shake, shake… shake it.
