Mac clones continue as German company joins the frenzy

PearC Clone

Although Psystar may be old news, another company seems to want to challenge Apple with their own Mac clones. Against Mac OS X’s end-user license agreement (EULA), the clones are attempting to compete with Apple’s Mac line of computers, and clone makers are always trying to find ways around Apple’s EULA.

German company HyperMegaNet UG has just released a line of computers that are capable of running Max OS X Leopard. The operating system is available for preinstall on the machines shipped, with Windows Vista and XP as alternatives. The line, named PearC, is made up of three sets of models: Starter, Advanced, and Professional. Prices run from about €499 to €1,499. Within these sets, processors are customizable and user-selectable, as well as graphics chips.

Although the computers seem tempting (yet generic and plain looking at the same time), using a clone running Leopard is against Apple’s EULA and will most likely result in an unstable computer, operating system, and user experience due to the lack of true compatibility. Though somewhat cheaper and more affordable than the official line of Macs, the same support and quality is not received. If anything, wait (if even possible) for an official Apple clone or a new Mac mini (which is much more likely to happen).

honestly…  i’ve got 4 mac’s and a hacked dell mini 9..  while i appreciate the community doing things that open stuff up for people to install legitimate copies of os x on hardware they got together.. i think starting a hardware company based on diluting somone elses ip is awful, i mean jesus, this stuff is a joke.  i hope apple takes them down somehow.
