Low iPod Touch supply hints at new version

iPod Touch
According to one Wall Street Analyst, there are some large changes coming to Apple’s iPod Touch line in the near future. This analyst, Ben Reitzes from Lehman Brothers, has drawn this conclusion due to small supplies in some areas, recent promotions for it, and more pressure on the price due to the $199 iPhone.  Mr. Reitzes points out that iPod Touch orders via the online store are seeing a small shipping delay, and Best Buy is running low on stock. “We believe Apple will need to reposition the iPod touch product by September now that the iPhone acquisition price is lower. We expect the iPod touch to experience significant cannibalization from lower-priced iPhones,” he writes.

I’m sure almost everyone will agree with these points. Apple needs to do something to make the iPod Touch more attractive for customers, whether it be lowering the price or adding more features to it or both. With the $199 iPhone, if Apple doesn’t do anything, the iPod Touch sales will plummet once the iPhone is released on July 11th. However, knowing Apple, I’m sure they will think of a good way to do this.
