Let’s Rock rumor summary

Let's Rock rumor summaryNow that the much anticipated Apple Let’s Rock event is only two days off, let’s talk Let’s Rock rumors. There are lots of possible goodies for the event, so let’s hope that Apple is up for the challenge and fulfills everyone’s hopes.

  • iPod nano Redesign: Need I say more? It could not be more obvious. Is the Pope Catholic? Yes. Will the iPod nano be redesigned? No doubt.
  • iTunes 8: This one is a little less certain than the iPod nano redesign, but still likely. With possibilities for this one ranging from a new iTunes visualizer to HD TV shows and the Genius Feature, I’m sure iTunes 8 would be a welcome addition to the Apple lineup.
  • iPod Touch Redesign and Price Drop: Along with the iPod nano redesign, there have been a smattering of iPod touch rumors that not only include possible info on the iPod nano 4G but the iPod touch 2G as well. No word on possible design, but rumor has it that the redesign will include a price drop.
  • iPod Touch/iPhone 2.1 Update: Recently, iPhones and iPod touches with OS v2.0 have turned into Vista-esque error and crashing machines. Hopefully, this update will come on Teusday, and with it bring some fixes for the afflicted users.
  • Mac OS 10.5.5 Software Update: This one has been in the works for a long time, and recent builds of Mac OS X v10.5.5 have been showing fewer and fewer bug fixes and known issues. The update is expected to show up before the end of the month, so what better time than the Let’s Rock event?
  • Update to All Notebooks: This one is a pretty good possibility. Despite the music-themed event, the fact that MacBooks have never seen an aesthetic upgrade since their introduction almost three years ago points to some chance of a new MacBook being unveiled at the event. The MacBook Pro has gone even longer without an upgrade, as the design has stayed pretty much the same since PowerBook G4 times, which is creeping up on seven (!?!?!) years. Come on Apple. Stop updating iPods and update your computers! As for the MacBook Air, it has been nine months since its introduction and no visual updates have come along. Maybe (hopefully) this event will spawn some new Notebooks from Apple. The only issue is that there have been some rumors circulating that Apple is going to wait until the holiday season to unveil many of these products.

The following updates are unlikely, but never say never:

  • iTunes Unlimited: Fat chance. Keep Dreaming. It is highly unlikely that Apple will introduce the subscription based iTunes Unlimited service for their popular music store.
  • Redesigned Cinema Displays: Another Apple iThing that hasn’t seen an update since its introduction. The Cinema Displays could definitely use an update, but I’m not so sure this is very likely to show up on wednesday. Maybe Apple will save these for the holiday season, if at all.
  • Mac Tablet: As much as I would love to see one of these iTablets, chances are slim that we will see one this week.

Hopefully, Apple will deliver with many shiny new iThings on wednesday, now let’s just hope that they don’t bite off more than they can chew.
