Take this with an entire shaker of salt, but Kevin Rose, founder of everybody’s favorite website, Digg, has announced his take on the September iPod updates. Rose says, in a YouTube video he created, that there will be a mass revamp of the entire iPod line. He hypothesizes that the iPod nano will go back to its roots and sport a longer, narrower form factor.
Additionally, according to his “sources,“ he says the iPod touch will go under minor cosmetic changes, but more importantly sport a revision to its OS, which the iPhone will receive shortly thereafter. Kevin also says the iPods will drop in price to distance themselves from the iPhone, which starts at $199. Finally, he adds that iTunes will be updated to 8.0, which will earn the upgrade from version 7 with many new features. As expected, all of this will be announced formally within the next few weeks.
While this prediction is much more reserved than Kevin’s previous take at Apple-analysis, he has been wrong before, so don’t trust Mr. Digg 100%, crazy as that may sound.
